The Málaga-based platform Ruralidays.com records a 450% increase in bookings for the days of the August eclipse in Málaga, Cádiz, Granada, and Almería. The average price has risen by 32%, although in some cases it has reached 300%.

Bookings for rural houses in the provinces of Málaga, Cádiz, Granada, and Almería have increased by 450% for the dates of the August eclipse compared to the same period last year. This is reflected in the data from Ruralidays.com, a platform for marketing rural accommodations based in Málaga, as published by Diario Sur.

The co-founder of Ruralidays, Félix Zea, attributes this increase to the fact that these four Andalusian provinces will offer the best conditions to observe the astronomical phenomenon, which will take place in the first week of August.

The average price for those nights has risen by 32% "for the moment", a more moderate increase than that applied by the hotel sector, according to Zea. However, the co-founder admits that in some specific cases, increases of 300% have been recorded.

"These increases are related to rural houses that are managed professionally like an agency, but private owners have decided not to make exorbitant price hikes"

Zea explains that these agencies calculate that, coinciding with the event in the first week of August, "they will sell it no matter what, as it is the most demanded week of the year for a rural house with a private pool. But they will start lowering prices in the coming months, if their dynamic pricing systems advise it".

The booking data recorded up to 15 September reflects that rural tourism will be one of the preferred accommodation options for those travelling to Andalucía to witness the eclipse.
