The Junta de Andalucía authorises the new restaurant that will allow the relocation of Vicen-Playa and complete the expansion of the Poniente promenade, with works expected to finish in the first quarter of 2027.
The expansion of the Poniente promenade, in Málaga, is moving towards its final stages. The works are in an advanced phase and the developer Naiz Homes, which leads the residential project of La Térmica, is confident that they will be completed in the first quarter of next year, according to sources from the company, as reported by Diario Sur.
The main obstacle that remained to be resolved was the relocation of the beach bar Vicen-Playa, which interrupts the pedestrian path at its eastern end. The construction project for the new restaurant received authorisation on 23 September from the Delegation of the Ministry of Sustainability, which manages permits in maritime-terrestrial public domain following supervision by the Coastal Authority. The file had reached the offices of the regional administration, sent by the City Council, on 17 August.
The previous private developers of La Térmica, the fund Ginkgo and Aedas Homes, paid the City Council €238,000 in September 2024 to finance the construction of the new beach bar. Five months later, the works for the extension of the promenade began. The timelines for executing the new premises are still unknown, and its owner, Rafael Jurado, has already warned that he will not leave until the new venue is operational.
“We will leave here when the new one is ready to start functioning there, I hope they comply”
The extension of the promenade is associated with the residential project of La Térmica, which includes 600 homes and whose first phase is scheduled for delivery in September 2029. The original pedestrian axis was inaugurated nearly 25 years ago.
The project spans a length of 350 metres and covers 22,900 square metres. It includes the planting of over 105 trees, the installation of 122 streetlights, and a children's play area of 22 square metres, as well as the reorganisation of parking and the integration of a bike lane. The budget amounts to €2.6 million.
According to the approved urbanisation plans, the new section will not connect with the roundabout on Avenida de Imperio Argentina, which provides access to Sacaba Beach: the promenade will remain about 80 metres from that roundabout. The City Council has indicated that it will seek ways to complete that section “either publicly or linked to future developments.”
