The Zenit chain opens the Zenit San Telmo, a four-star hotel with 62 rooms, a pool and a gym on Capuchinos street. The neighbourhood thus adds its first hotel of this category, with several more projects in the pipeline.

The Zenit Hoteles chain has opened the Zenit San Telmo, the first four-star hotel in the Capuchinos neighbourhood of Málaga. The establishment, located on Capuchinos street, features 62 rooms, some with terraces, as well as duplex suites with terraces, a pool and sunbathing area, a gym, a 70-square-metre conference room, and an underground car park with charging points for electric vehicles. The restaurant, named Nadir, will be managed by Restauración Santa Cruz, which already collaborates with Zenit in Madrid and Pamplona, according to Diario Sur.

The building, designed by Basque architect Izaskun Larzabal, has a ground floor plus two upper floors and an attic, with two basements for parking. One of its features is that it has integrated a 17th-century cistern with a square plan and crowned by a dome, which may have been linked to the pottery activity in the area. It has also preserved four segments of a water conduit from the San Telmo Aqueduct, an 18th-century infrastructure that supplied the Centre from the Guadalmedina basin.

The opening of this four-star hotel coincides with an expansion of tourist accommodations in Capuchinos and its surroundings, where vacation apartments have proliferated in recent years. The Málaga City Council initially approved in May the procedures to expand this hotel with a property on an adjacent plot that belonged to Longline Capital. However, a ruling from the Culture Delegation has currently halted that expansion as it cannot unify plots, being located in the vicinity of a cultural heritage site without specific urban planning protection, such as the San Telmo Aqueduct.

The Zenit San Telmo will be joined by the hostel or boutique hotel that Abit Living has built on Dos Aceras street. Additionally, the City Council is processing other hotel and tourist apartment projects that are not affected by the moratorium approved last July. On a plot at number 32 on Capuchinos street, Iberia Reim, through the vehicle Arabí Living, will build a building with 27 tourist apartments.

At number 43 on Alameda de Capuchinos, the City Council has initiated the process to demolish the Telefónica building and construct a three-star hotel designed by architect Carlos Domingo Corpas, the author of the ME Málaga hotel. It will have a ground floor plus four, a roof and a basement, with capacity for around 60 rooms in approximately 2,700 square metres of constructed area. The property has been acquired by INDES Tech, which will keep it leased to Telefónica until next year.

A three-star hotel has also been announced on a plot on Alameda de Capuchinos, at the corner with Arapiles street, where the construction of 36 homes was planned. The project, designed by the HCP studio, includes 130 rooms and about 4,000 square metres of constructed area. The Municipal Urban Planning Management granted the construction license last December for a building with 24 tourist apartments with a pool at number 54 on Alameda de Capuchinos, opposite the Telefónica building.
