The Fuengirola City Council has created a Network of Marine Trails with seven routes to discover the blue heritage of the coastline. The routes can be undertaken by diving, snorkelling, paddle surfing or kayaking.

Fuengirola has launched a Network of Marine Trails that will allow locals and tourists to explore the seabed of the municipality. The initiative, presented by Mayor Ana Mula, includes seven routes designed for different water activities: two for diving, three for snorkelling, and two for paddling with paddle surf or kayak.

The routes cover iconic points along the Fuengirola coastline. The diving routes are located at the Yesera reefs and the Castle beach; the snorkelling routes are at the Carvajal breakwater, the Torreblanca reef, and the Castle beach; and the paddling routes connect Los Boliches with Carvajal and the Castle beach with Los Boliches.

“The sea is the greatest treasure we have. It is our reason for being as a city,” stated the mayor during the presentation, accompanied by the Councillor for Tourism, José Luis Ponce, and the Councillor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez. Mula emphasised that the aim is to showcase “some of the most beautiful and diverse seabeds in our surroundings.”

A website with all the information

All the routes are available on the website senderosmarinos.es, which includes photographs, aerial and underwater videos, as well as detailed information about marine species, the characteristics of each area, and environmental respect guidelines. Safety tips and the exact route on Google Maps are also provided, so any user can plan their itinerary.

The website will soon be integrated into the new Tourism Area website, which will be presented in the coming days. This way, interested parties will be able to access the routes from a single municipal portal.

A tourist and environmental incentive

The mayor highlighted that the network aims to “offer Fuengirola residents the opportunity to discover the natural wealth and, at the same time, promote ourselves as a blue municipality.” The initiative seeks to create a new tourist attraction, especially during the high season when the beaches of Fuengirola welcome thousands of visitors.

The marine trails add to other attractions along the coastline, such as the Promenade, considered one of the most beautiful in the world. “Under our waters, there is life, there are species, there are seabeds, there are spaces that are part of our blue heritage and deserve to be known, valued, and protected,” Mula added.

For locals, this network represents an opportunity to rediscover their own municipality from a different perspective. The routes are designed for all levels, from beginners to experienced divers, and it is recommended to check the weather conditions before heading into the water.

The initiative has been well received by students from the Paddle Surf school, who participated in the presentation and have already tried some of the routes. According to municipal sources, the expectation is that the network will expand in the future with new routes, depending on demand and environmental impact studies.
