The Marenostrum Fuengirola venue will host four outdoor family cinema sessions on July 21 and 22 and August 11 and 12. Admission is free and the films have been selected by public vote.
The Marenostrum Fuengirola venue is preparing for a new edition of summer cinema, an event that has become a tradition on the Fuengirola coast. Thanks to the renewed agreement between the Fuengirola City Council and the Miramar shopping centre, attendees will be able to enjoy four free screenings for the whole family during July and August.
The films to be shown this year have been chosen by the users themselves through Miramar's social media, which launched a vote among eight proposals. As an incentive, participants entered a draw for four gift cards for the centre worth 50 euros each.
The winning films and schedule
The selected films are: 'How to Train Your Dragon', which will be screened on July 21; 'Sonic 3', on July 22; 'Bad Guys 2', on August 11; and 'Wicked', which will close the cycle on August 12. Each session will start at 21:00 hours, and the venue will open its doors at that same time so attendees can choose their favourite spot.
Viewers can choose between three distinct areas: towel area, chair area or stands. This way, each family can tailor the experience to their liking, whether lying on the sand or sitting comfortably.
A charitable leisure plan
The initiative not only offers entertainment but also has a charitable component. The proceeds from the food and drink bars at the venue will be entirely donated to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer’s Patients (AFA), both of which have a significant role in the province of Málaga.
The Councillor for Beaches, José Sánchez, thanked Miramar for renewing the agreement and highlighted that this activity “complements the sun and beach offering we have in Fuengirola.” For her part, Sandra Iglesias, from the Marketing department of Miramar, noted that summer cinema “is a highly welcomed initiative among the residents of Fuengirola and temporary visitors,” and emphasised that “it represents a very important initiative, of great value to the city, proposing a different leisure plan that promotes family activities.”
For the residents of Fuengirola and the tourists who fill the coast these days, the proposal is a success: outdoor cinema, free, with the scent of the sea and the opportunity to lend a hand to two necessary causes. Who knows, they might even be encouraged to vote next time so they don’t miss out on their favourite film.
