The Benalmádena Town Hall will begin work on Monday, August 31, to widen the roadway of Avenida Retamar, with an investment of €254,463 mostly funded by the Málaga Provincial Council.
The Benalmádena Town Hall will undertake a new project on August 31 on Avenida Retamar to improve traffic flow and accessibility in a curved section of about 30 metres.
The project, which has a budget of €254,463, will be financed with €220,000 from the Málaga Provincial Council and the remainder with municipal funds. The expected execution period is four months.
Before the work begins, the City Council held a meeting with local residents to explain the scope of the intervention and the potential traffic impacts during its development.
The councillor for Roads and Works, José Luis Bergillos, highlighted the importance of informing residents before starting such a project and addressing their concerns, as the work will represent "a significant improvement for this area."
The main action will consist of constructing an overhang that will allow the roadway width to be increased to seven metres and enable a 2.25-metre pavement, thus complying with accessibility regulations.
"We are going to significantly improve this section of Avenida Retamar, both in terms of traffic and pedestrian mobility," explained Bergillos.
The councillor noted that this intervention had not been carried out before because the necessary land was not available to the Town Hall during the previous project. Now, once available, the work will eliminate a point where the road section is insufficient.
The project also includes structural elements to support the expansion and the installation of protective railings on the new pedestrian route. Bergillos asked for "understanding from residents regarding the temporary inconveniences" that a necessary project may cause and that, upon completion, will improve safety and mobility in the area.
