The Infoca Plan has activated the emergency phase due to the fire declared in the Montemayor urbanisation of Estepona. Several homes have been evacuated and the AP-7 remains closed in the area.

A forest fire declared on Thursday afternoon in the Montemayor urbanisation of Estepona has mobilised dozens of personnel from the Infoca Plan. The fire, which started around 16:38, has forced the preventive evacuation of several homes in the Botanical Country Club Park and has caused the closure of the AP-7 motorway in the vicinity of the incident.

Emergency phase of the Infoca Plan activated

The Emergency Councillor, Antonio Sanz, confirmed that the Infoca Plan has been elevated to emergency phase, operational situation 1, due to the evolution of the fire. This involves the coordination of aerial and ground resources to try to control the flames as soon as possible.

On-site, 45 personnel are working on the ground, supported by a fire engine and a medical unit. Aerial resources have also been deployed: one light helicopter, two medium helicopters and one heavy helicopter, as well as two ground support aircraft — one Foca from the Ministry of Ecological Transition and another for coordination.

Evacuations and AP-7 closure

The authorities have ordered the preventive evacuation of homes located in the Botanical Country Club Park area, the closest to the fire's focus. Residents have been moved to a safe location while the firefighting teams work to prevent the flames from spreading to the houses.

The AP-7 has been closed to traffic in both directions at kilometre 150, in the vicinity of the fire. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes, such as the national road N-340, and to follow the instructions of the Civil Guard.

Recommendations for local residents

The Estepona Town Hall has activated the emergency protocol and recommends that residents of Montemayor and surrounding areas stay alert to official notices. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and not to approach the affected area to facilitate the work of the firefighting services.

So far, no personal injuries have been reported, although the flames are advancing in an area of scrubland and pine forest. The evolution of the fire will depend on weather conditions, with easterly winds that could complicate control efforts. Infoca teams continue to work to stabilise the perimeter and prevent the fire from reaching new homes.
