The Infoca Plan has stabilised a fire declared in the Urbanisation Cerro del Águila in Colmenar at 19:00. This is the second fire of the day in the province, following another in Málaga city.
The province of Málaga has experienced a Sunday marked by fire. Around 17:30, a fire was declared in the municipality of Colmenar, specifically in the area of the Urbanisation Cerro del Águila. By 19:00, the Infoca Plan managed to stabilise it, according to sources from the firefighting device and the Emergency Services 1-1-2 of Andalucía.
The affected area is mainly grassland, low vegetation and scrub, with favourable weather conditions as there was no strong wind. The firefighting efforts included one light helicopter, one heavy helicopter, and one semi-heavy helicopter, as well as two ground-loading planes, one light amphibious aircraft, and one coordination aircraft. In total, 34 personnel and one fire engine were dispatched to the site.
The 1-1-2 service has indicated that the Consortium Firefighters, Civil Guard, Regional Protection, Local Police, and Health and Prevention Services have also been activated. So far, no evacuations have been recorded.
This fire adds to the one declared at noon in a mountainous area of Málaga city, near the A-7 motorway at kilometre 988 towards Málaga. That fire, active since 13:00, was stabilised at 13:40 and controlled at 14:10, although there may still be hot spots. Two groups of forest firefighters, an operations technician, a fire engine, and a light helicopter were deployed there.
Both fires are part of a complicated day in the province, although not as severe as the large fires affecting other communities. In Madrid, Ávila, and Toledo, the fires have shown significant improvement over Sunday, according to the Military Emergency Unit (UME), which reports that all fronts are contained. However, authorities warn that there are still challenging hours ahead and several hotspots remain active.
These fires, along with the one in Castellón, have forced the evacuation or confinement of more than 120,000 people in recent days. Only the fires in Madrid and Ávila have affected about 45,000 hectares and have created a combined perimeter exceeding 200 kilometres. In Castellón, the fire in La Vall d’Uixò has forced the evacuation of more than 16,000 people.
In the province of Málaga, authorities are maintaining vigilance in the affected areas and remind the public of the importance of taking precautions to prevent new fires, especially on days of high temperatures and low humidity.
