In Málaga, starting tomorrow, Monday 26th October, the Metropolitan Transport Consortium of the Málaga Area will reinforce its bus services between Málaga city, Rincón de la Victoria, and Vélez-Málaga. This measure aims to address the increase in demand on these routes and facilitate public transport, especially during peak hours.
Increase in daily trips
The Councillor for Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, informed the municipalities of Rincón de la Victoria and Vélez-Málaga about the implementation of the new plan. An increase of 59 daily trips is planned on the routes from Málaga to Rincón de la Victoria, Málaga to Los Rubios, Málaga to Torre del Mar, and Málaga to Vélez-Málaga. With this reinforcement, the total number of services will rise from 386 to 445.
Specifically, Rincón de la Victoria will see an increase of 12 trips, representing a 7.3% increase. Meanwhile, Los Rubios will have 11 additional trips, equivalent to a 23.9% increase. Torre del Mar will benefit from 22 more trips, a 19% increase, and Vélez-Málaga will have 14 additional trips, which means a 23.7% increase.
Additional measures in Axarquía
This reinforcement in public transport is due to a notable increase in the number of users, especially since May, when Vélez-Málaga joined the Consortium's fare system, allowing travellers to access integrated and discounted fares.
Additionally, the Junta de Andalucía has also taken measures to ensure public transport service in Alcaucín, Viñuela, Salares, Sedella, Canillas de Aceituno, and Trapiche. The continuity of these connections is crucial, as more than 7,600 residents depend on these services for their daily commutes.
With these actions, the aim is to adjust the transport supply to the mobility needs of the population, optimise resources, and ensure the availability of an essential public service in the metropolitan area of Málaga and Axarquía.
The meeting that resulted in these agreements included the participation of local authorities and the Consortium. Present were the mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado, and the Infrastructure Councillor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús María Claros, along with other representatives from the local government and the Metropolitan Transport Consortium.
