In Málaga, the Junta of Andalucía has announced the extension of the application deadline for the Vehicle Renewal Plan until 15 November. This aid programme is managed by the Andalusian Energy Agency.
Originally aimed at self-employed individuals, the Andalusian government is working on extending this aid to citizens and businesses as well. Furthermore, it is expected that the amount of aid will increase from €3,000 to €4,000, with the aim of benefiting a larger number of applicants and accelerating the decarbonisation of transport in the region.
Objectives of the Vehicle Renewal Plan
This programme aims to improve energy efficiency in transport, a sector that represents 43.4% of total final energy consumption in Andalucía. Notably, over 63% of the vehicles circulating in the community are over ten years old.
Additionally, the types of vehicles eligible for aid will be expanded, encouraging the purchase of cars and vans. For the latter, the emissions limit will be raised to 159 g CO2/km, aligning with current market demands.
Conditions to access the aid
The Vehicle Renewal Plan was launched on 15 April and finances the purchase of new non-plug-in vehicles acquired from 1 January 2026. The aim is to remove the most polluting vehicles from circulation and thus reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
To access the incentives, it is necessary to scrap a vehicle with a valid ITV, which is registered in Spain and has at least ten years of age. This vehicle must be deregistered from 1 January 2026.
The renewal of vehicles can be carried out through direct purchase or via financial leasing or renting of new vehicles registered in Spain, with a maximum price of €35,000 (excluding VAT). Additionally, the dealership or point of sale must be physically located in Andalucía.
The total budget allocated to the Vehicle Renewal Plan is €5 million. The aid will be awarded on a non-competitive basis, meaning that applications will be processed in the order they are received.
