The Junta de Andalucía has announced the opening of the application period for the 2027 aid aimed at the conservation of native livestock breeds in Málaga. From November 4, Andalusian breeders will be able to apply for these funds, which will be available for a period of 10 working days.
Features of the call
The total budget for this line of aid amounts to nearly €349,000, co-financed by the State and the Junta de Andalucía. This aid is directed at associations and organisations of breeders managing livestock species of officially recognised breeds.
The aid includes support for the management of breeding programmes, including the creation and maintenance of genealogical books. It also subsidises activities for the conservation of genetic resources, such as identification and parentage testing of specimens, as well as expenses related to training and raising awareness about native breeds.
Importance of native breeds
Native breeds are in a critical situation, as 148 of the 166 breeds in Spain are threatened with extinction. The conservation of these breeds is essential, not only to preserve biodiversity but also to promote land management and the settlement of populations in rural areas.
Among the breeds that will be supported in this call are the black Andalusian, the pajuna, the marismeña, and the Andalusian donkey, among others. These initiatives are key to ensuring the continuity of these species and their contribution to a more sustainable environment.
