Nerja has been the setting for the Hackathon organized by the Junta de Andalucía, where over 100 students have gathered to innovate solutions that help save water in agriculture. This event is held at the Municipal Centre for Training and Employment of the locality and is part of a series of activities aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among young people.

Participation of the Institutes and Awards

A total of 106 students from the Secondary Education Institutes (IES) ‘El Chaparil’, ‘Sierra Almijara’ and ‘Jorge Guillén’ joined this initiative. Among the notable personalities present were Antonio Jesús García, territorial delegate of Economy, and Miguel Briones, territorial delegate of Education. The event concluded with the award ceremony for the winning team, which stood out for its innovative proposal.

The general director of Andalucía Emprende, Javier González, closed the event and explained the positive impact these hackathons have on young people, as they allow them to identify opportunities and contribute to solving real problems in the business environment.

Innovative and Sustainable Solutions

During the day, students organized into teams to tackle the proposed challenge: to design sustainable solutions that optimize water use in agriculture. A total of 20 projects were presented, ranging from applications to irrigation systems.

The winning group, composed of five students from the IES ‘El Chaparil’ and ‘Sierra Almijara’, proposed an intelligent drone called ‘El Hielo’. This tool aims to detect soil moisture and optimize irrigation, thus contributing to a more efficient use of water resources.

The Hackathon stands out as a platform for young people to develop essential skills, such as creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving, while facing real challenges. This day is part of a series of activities that will travel through the eight Andalusian provinces, with an expected participation of around 800 young people.

The next event is scheduled for November 5 in El Ejido (Almería), closing the cycle on November 12 in La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz).
