The spokesperson for VOX in Benalmádena, Joaquín Amann, has called for an audit of the management of the Marina, denouncing the ineffectiveness of PP and PSOE. He also criticises the new tender to remove the remains of the Willow, which will cost more and only remove 40%.
The spokesperson for the VOX Municipal Group in the Benalmádena City Council, Joaquín Amann, demanded on Friday a thorough audit of the management of the Marina. The request was made from the very facilities of the port, which Amann described as “the crown jewel of Benalmádena from a tourist perspective.”
Amann has denounced the deterioration in the management of this key infrastructure for the municipality. He explained that at the last municipal plenary session, the Popular Party revealed that the Socialist Party had five lawsuits related to its management of the port. For its part, the PSOE claimed that the PP had filed another five lawsuits for the same reason.
Conviction of a former councillor and criticism of the Willow management
The VOX spokesperson also recalled the conviction of Francisco Salido, a councillor who was in charge of the Marina during both PP and PSOE governments. “This is the level of management that both have offered in a fundamental infrastructure for Benalmádena,” Amann pointed out.
Furthermore, he questioned the latest decision by the municipal government of the PP to re-tender the removal of the remains of the Willow, the boat that remains semi-sunken in the port. The new tender will be around €313,000 and will only allow for the removal of 40% of the remains, an amount that far exceeds the €230,000 initially budgeted to remove the entire boat.
“This reflects, at the very least, poor management, ineffectiveness, and incompetence,” Amann stated, who believes that this situation helps to understand the cross accusations between PP and PSOE.
A change of model for the port
VOX demands “a proper audit” that allows for a precise understanding of what is happening at the Marina, clarifying responsibilities and modifying its management. “Benalmádena cannot continue to endure this situation and the residents cannot keep paying for the parties of the Popular Party and the Socialist Party,” Amann added.
For the residents of Benalmádena, this situation represents a direct concern about how public resources are managed. The Marina is a tourist and economic engine of the municipality, and any inefficiency or overspending ultimately impacts the services received by citizens. The audit requested by VOX aims to ensure that the money of the Benalmadenses is used to improve public services, not to cover administrative deficiencies.
So far, the PP government team has not commented on the audit request, but the debate in the next plenary session promises to be intense. Meanwhile, the remains of the Willow continue to serve as a visual reminder of a management that, according to VOX, needs urgent change.
