Over 330 personnel work each day to restore the spaces of the Málaga Fair between the daytime and nighttime events. The operation, with more than a hundred vehicles, removes waste and horse remains in the Centre and the Real.

The Málaga Fair maintains a special cleaning operation that mobilises over 330 personnel and a hundred vehicles and machines every day. The operation, coordinated by Emasan, acts in the interval between the Day Fair and the Night Fair to prepare the spaces before the nighttime activities begin.

José Antonio Marín, head of service at Emasan, explains that the intervention begins on the main street, one of the points with the highest concentration of people. There, the teams work alongside the Local Police to move quickly while removing the accumulated rubbish and the remains left by the horses.

In this edition, more tonnes have been removed than in other fairs, according to Marín, reflecting the volume of work the operation faces. Cleaning does not rely on a single machine: it combines personnel on foot, sweepers, washing, and vacuum trucks, coordinated to act on the pavement and remove the water used.

A protocol with scented water

One of the steps that Marín considers most important is the tangential washing with scented water, aimed at combating the odours that remain after the activities. Behind the vacuum trucks, a sweeper collects the used water and vacuums up what remains on the ground, avoiding puddles.

The sequence requires a specific order: first, the water is applied, and then the sweeper intervenes. This specific protocol is activated during the Fair, not only to remove visible waste but also to address the conditions left by several hours of activity and the presence of animals in the venue.

The deployment reaches the two main stages of the celebration: the centre of Málaga and the Real. Together, it gathers more than 100 vehicles and machines, including sweepers, vacuum trucks, and collection vehicles. The operational priority is to achieve a quick removal of waste during the shift changes.

The festive activities continue while the cleaning takes place. On August 19, the programme includes bullfighting, verdiales, and music at the Real, and the operation must complete its intervention before nightfall. The Historic Centre is also part of the places where the Fair is experienced, so the action extends to various points in the city.
