The speech by the mayor of Grazalema, Carlos García, will kick off the preliminary programme of the Feria and Fiestas de Pedro Romero in Ronda, which will be held from 1 to 6 September.

The Feria and Fiestas de Pedro Romero in Ronda starts this Thursday, 20 August, with the speech delivered by the mayor of Grazalema, Carlos García, at the Blas Infante Auditorium from 21:00 hours. The event will feature the performance of the group Los Alpresa and will serve as a prelude to an edition that is presented especially symbolic for the city.

The councillor for Fiestas, Rebeca Muñoz, presented the complete programme on Wednesday at the Convento de Santo Domingo and emphasised the emotional nature of the speech. “I am convinced that it will be a very special speech,” she stated, referring to the warm welcome that the residents of Grazalema received in Ronda earlier this year following the damage caused by the series of storms. “We will experience very special moments during the Speech,” she added.

This year's edition revives the bullfighting events, which were suspended for two years due to the rehabilitation of the bullring. The Novillada, the Corrida de Rejones, and the traditional Corrida Goyesca will return to the Ronda bullring, which will also host the Exhibition Contest of Carriages. The president of the Damas Goyescas, businesswoman Milagros Naranjo, and the other ladies will finally be able to fully experience their appointment.

The programme kicks off this Thursday with the speech and continues on Saturday 22 with the LVI Festival of Cante Grande de Ronda at the Murallas del Carmen, featuring Duquende, Miguel de Tena, and Rocío Luna among others. On Monday 24, the Damas Goyescas will visit groups such as Geroclinic, Hermanitas de los Pobres, Parra Grossi, Aroal, Catalina Guerrero, Asprodisis, and Senior.

The preliminary agenda is completed with the exhibition of shawls and mantillas by Rosario Solís (Wednesday 26), the LII Folkloric Galas (from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30), the floral offering to Pedro Romero, and the inauguration of the entrance arch. On Tuesday 1 September, the parade will depart from Calle Jerez to officially open the Ángel Harillo fairground.

Among the concerts and central events, highlights include Miguel Campello ‘El Bicho’ (Wednesday 2) and the XVII Contest of Equestrian Clothing and Tack (Thursday 3). On Friday 4, the Novillada Sin Picadores will take place with Jaime de Pedro, Armando Rojo, and Héctor Nieto, along with the X Taurine Speech of the Goyesca, delivered by Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo.

Saturday 5 will be the main day with the 42nd Rondeña Corrida de Rejones, in tribute to Álvaro Domecq Romero, and the 67th Traditional Corrida Goyesca featuring Morante de la Puebla, José María Manzanares, and Juan Ortega, along with the rejoneador Diego Ventura. The event will conclude on Sunday 6 with the XLVI Exhibition Contest of Carriages, with a stop at Calle Virgen de la Paz and a display at the bullring.

Muñoz has called on Rondeños and visitors to enjoy the fair and has thanked the involvement of the Junta de Andalucía, the Diputación de Málaga, and the Fundación Unicaja in the organisation. The preliminary events will take place between 20 and 30 August, while the day and night fair will occupy the fairground from 1 to 6 September.
