The Málaga City Council has renewed the free grant of the land where Bancosol stores and distributes food to 21,764 people in the province for 25 years.

The councillor for Urban Planning, Carmen Casero, and the president of Bancosol, Diego Vázquez, signed the extension of the surface rights over the 6,260 square metre municipal plot in the Trévenez industrial estate this Wednesday. The agreement, which is free of charge, ensures the continuity of the food bank's activities for the next quarter of a century.

Bancosol has been operating from these facilities since 2002, where it receives, stores, and distributes food to 129 social entities throughout the province. Currently, it assists 21,764 people, of whom one third are minors. Since its foundation in 1998, the organisation has redistributed more than 97 million kilos of food.

Stability for a key mission

Diego Vázquez thanked the support of the City Council and the mayor, Francisco de la Torre, and highlighted that this renewal "provides the necessary stability to continue developing our daily work in service of those who need it most." In a statement, the entity emphasised that institutional support "has been crucial for the growth of the organisation and for consolidating a project that has become a benchmark of solidarity in the province."

Councillor Carmen Casero, for her part, valued the agreement as "a demonstration of the City Council's commitment to the most vulnerable people." The free land grant represents a significant annual saving for Bancosol, allowing it to allocate more resources to its assistance work.

Beyond food aid

Since 2014, Bancosol has been developing training and socio-labour inclusion programmes. More than 1,500 people have found employment through these initiatives. The organisation thus seeks "comprehensive care that goes beyond mere assistance," as explained by its representatives.

For the residents of Málaga, the renewal of the grant ensures that Bancosol can continue to assist thousands of families without resources. The entity emphasises that its goal is "that no family in the province of Málaga goes without food due to lack of resources."

The agreement, which is part of the City Council's public-private collaboration policy, strengthens the local solidarity network in a context of increasing demand. Bancosol plans to maintain and even expand its storage capacity in the coming years, thanks to the legal security provided by the extension.
