Málaga City Council and Bancosol have signed the renewal of the land lease agreement for the Trévenez industrial estate for 25 years. The agreement guarantees the continuity of the organisation, which supports over 21,000 people in the province.
Málaga City Council and the Food Bank of the Costa del Sol (Bancosol) have signed the renewal of the land lease agreement for the facilities of the organisation located in the Trévenez industrial estate. The extension, for a period of 25 years, ensures the continuity of an organisation that supports thousands of vulnerable individuals in the province.
The agreement represents a key institutional backing for Bancosol, which has been working for over two decades in food distribution and social and labour inclusion programmes. The stability provided by this renewal allows the organisation to plan its work in the long term without the uncertainty of a potential loss of its headquarters.
A timely support
The president of Bancosol, Diego Vázquez, has expressed gratitude for the commitment of the City Council and, in particular, the mayor, Francisco de la Torre, as well as the councillor for Urban Planning, Carmen Casero. "I want to express our sincerest thanks to Málaga City Council and, very especially, to the mayor, Francisco de la Torre, for their ongoing collaboration with Bancosol and for making the renewal of this lease possible for another twenty-five years," Vázquez stated.
Vázquez highlighted that the support received has been decisive for the growth of the organisation. "The support from the City Council has been constant since our beginnings, and this renewal once again demonstrates their sensitivity towards the most vulnerable people," he added. The president emphasised that, thanks to this agreement, Bancosol will be able to continue focusing its efforts on its mission: "that no family in the province of Málaga goes without food due to lack of resources."
Over two decades of work and 97 million kilos redistributed
Bancosol was founded in 1998 in Mercamálaga with the aim of recovering food surpluses and distributing them among social entities. In 2002, the organisation moved to its current facilities in the Trévenez industrial estate, where it has over 1,900 square metres for the reception, storage, and distribution of food. During this time, it has redistributed 97,326,053 kilograms of food.
Currently, Bancosol works with 129 social entities throughout the province of Málaga, through which it provides food support to 21,764 people, nearly a third of whom are minors. Additionally, since 2014, it has developed training and social and labour inclusion programmes that have enabled 1,578 people to find employment.
For the residents of Málaga, this renewal means that Bancosol will continue to be a pillar in the fight against poverty in the province. The organisation not only distributes food but also promotes the autonomy of the beneficiaries through training and employment. The next time a resident of Málaga donates food or sees a Bancosol truck, they will know that the organisation's headquarters is secured for the coming decades.
The signing of the agreement took place at an event in Málaga City Council, attended by municipal representatives and the management of Bancosol. The renewal takes effect immediately and will last until 2049.
