The eighth edition of the event will traverse the historic centre of Vélez-Málaga, starting from Plaza de las Carmelitas. There will be categories for all ages and a limit of 600 participants.

The historic centre of Vélez-Málaga will once again become a sports circuit on the night of Saturday, August 8, with the VIII Night Race 'City of Vélez-Málaga – Run Your Story'. The event, organised by the Department of Sports and the Vélez Rincón Dental Athletics Club, will kick off at 21:00 from Plaza de las Carmelitas, which will also host the finish line and the awards ceremony.

The main course, measuring 5,000 metres, will start at 21:45 and will be open to runners from the SUB16 category onwards. Before that, at 21:00, there will be a 1,200-metre race for SUB12 and SUB14; at 21:15, an 800-metre race for SUB10; and at 21:25, a 500-metre race for SUB8. The organisation has set a limit of 600 participants for the entire day.

Registered participants will receive a commemorative technical t-shirt and will have refreshments available during the course and at the finish line. As for awards, there will be trophies for the top three in the overall male and female classifications, and medals for the top three in each category. Runners in SUB8 and SUB10 will also receive a finisher medal for completing their race.

The Sports Councillor, Manuel Gutiérrez, highlighted that the event combines sport and heritage: “Runners not only participate in a sporting event but also enjoy a different route through some of the most emblematic spaces in the centre of Vélez-Málaga.” He added that the high participation each year demonstrates that it is a well-established summer event in Vélez.

For his part, Carlos Gámez, representative of the Vélez Rincón Dental Athletics Club, emphasised that the essence of the race lies in the experience: “The night route through the historic centre makes it a different race, with a very special atmosphere.” The club approaches this edition with the intention of making it “a true celebration of athletics.”

The awards ceremony is scheduled for 22:45 in Plaza de las Carmelitas. With this eighth edition, Vélez-Málaga reaffirms its commitment to grassroots sports and to showcasing its historic centre as a venue for healthy and family-friendly activities.
