The Ronda City Council has put up for sale the cork extracted from the Montes de Propio, in Cortes de la Frontera, for 803,000 euros. This year's campaign has yielded 425,000 kilos of cork from 350 hectares.
The Ronda City Council has put the sale of cork from the Montes de Propio out to tender, a municipal estate of over 4,000 hectares located within the municipality of Cortes de la Frontera. The starting price reaches 803,000 euros (including VAT), as reported by the municipal contracting delegate, Jorge Fernández.
This year's cork extraction campaign has taken place in the El Berrueco area, covering an area of 350 hectares. A total of 9,241 castellano quintales of cork, equivalent to 425,000 kilos, have been extracted and divided into three lots according to their quality.
Interested companies can submit their bids through the Contractor Profile on the municipal website until 17 August. The award will be granted to the highest financial offer, and visits to the woods can also be arranged to assess the quality of the cork.
The municipal official has reminded that 15% of the generated income is allocated to the improvement of this area, which is part of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park. In a context of high fire risk, this money allows for the sanitation of the tree mass, maintenance of extraction paths, water areas, and roads.
Fernández has emphasized that the municipal management of these lands has been recognized several times for its environmental value, in addition to being an important source of income for local coffers. This year's sale, if concluded at the starting price, will provide significant support for these prevention efforts.
