The Málaga municipality of Torrox will celebrate its twelfth Tourist Day on Saturday, September 26, with activities throughout the day and a night gala at the Balcón Mirador of Torrox Costa, which will include a free performance by Juan Magán and a fireworks display at midnight.
Torrox has set the date for its twelfth Tourist Day. It will be on Saturday, September 26, with a programme featuring cultural, sports, and leisure activities across the historic centre, Calaceite, and the area around the Lighthouse, culminating in the evening at Torrox Costa with a gala and a free performance by Juan Magán. According to Diario Sur, the event will also include a fireworks display from El Espigón at midnight.
The day will kick off at 9:00 AM with a guided tour of the historic centre limited to 30 participants. Half an hour later, a snorkelling activity is scheduled in the Calaceite area, also with 30 spots and subject to sea conditions. In both cases, prior registration at the relevant municipal offices and areas is required.
The El Faro Interpretation Centre will be another venue. Between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, it will host a family workshop on hieroglyphic writing with 25 spots, and in the afternoon, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, a guided tour of the archaeological site of the Lighthouse for a maximum of 30 people. Both activities require prior registration.
The central moment will arrive from 8:30 PM with the Grand Gala of Tourist Day at the Balcón Mirador of Torrox Costa. The programme includes a performance by The New Crew, the presentation of awards for this edition, and a concert by Juan Magán. A fireworks display from El Espigón is scheduled for midnight.
“I guarantee that it will be a very special Tourist Day and a Tourist Day gala,” assured the mayor, Óscar Medina (PP), who encouraged residents and visitors to participate in the activities.
The mayor defended the importance of the sector in the local economy: “Tourism is the main source and growth factor for Torrox and the Costa del Sol since the 1970s.”
The first deputy mayor, Paula Moreno, highlighted that the City Council has been expanding both the activities and the infrastructure associated with the celebration over these twelve editions. Moreno pointed out the Balcón Mirador of the Lighthouse as one of the municipality's “emblematic” spaces.
One of the usual sections of the gala will be the recognitions. The Málaga Football Club and businessman José Luis López, known as 'el Turronero', will receive the distinction of Tourists of the Year 2026. The mayor emphasized López's connection to Torrox through his family and his contribution, according to the City Council, to promoting the municipality.
Businesses with a history linked to local commercial and tourist activity will also be honoured, including Mercería y Regalos Cristina and Luka's Café. Medina extended this recognition to the entire business fabric: “For me, all the more than 2,000 self-employed individuals, merchants, and entrepreneurs who raise their shutters every day, pay taxes, generate employment, and create wealth are honoured.”
The celebration comes after Torrox was declared a Tourist Municipality of Andalucía by the Junta at the end of 2025, after proving that the volume of overnight stays exceeds the required threshold relative to its resident population. The regional administration then estimated 15,359 registered tourist accommodation places and 2,465 average daily overnight stays during 2024.
The municipality currently has 21,795 inhabitants, of which 8,554 are foreign nationals, nearly four out of ten residents. Germany remains the primary country of origin, according to 2025 data from the Andalusian Institute of Statistics and Cartography.
People interested in the activities with limited spots must register in advance at the municipal offices and areas. The gala and the concert by Juan Magán at the Balcón Mirador of Torrox Costa are free to access.
