The Torrox Town Hall has installed 100 kilometres of bunting in the colours of the Spanish flag in the historic centre and around the fairgrounds. The decoration serves as a prelude to the Torrox Fair 2026, which kicks off this Wednesday, 30 September.
The historic centre of Torrox is currently covered by an almost continuous display of red and yellow. The Torrox Town Hall has installed 100 kilometres of bunting made of plastic in the colours of the Spanish flag, according to Diario Sur. The material stretches from the area around the La Almazara fairgrounds to the Constitution Square, passing through several streets in the centre.
The decoration extends along Avenida de Cómpeta, Paseo de Las Moreras, and the streets Almedina and Doña Elisa Ortega, four of the main thoroughfares in the historic centre. In total, the bunting forms a sort of large red and yellow flag that spans over two kilometres throughout the urban area. In Constitution Square, the traditional umbrellas in the same colours have also been set up.
The display can be particularly appreciated from the air. An aerial video recorded this weekend from a paramotor by Fly Costa del Sol Málaga, a company managed by David Tejeiro from Cómpeta, captures the historic centre and shows how the red and yellow strips snake through the streets and concentrate around the square.
The mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina (PP), expressed his satisfaction with the result. "Overwhelmed with Spanish pride. Long live Spain," he told SUR this Sunday while referring to the large-scale decoration. The mayor also shared another message on his social media, along with the video, this time related to Ceuta: "Ceuta is not for sale, Ceuta is defended."
The decoration serves as a prelude to the Torrox Fair 2026, which will take place from Wednesday, 30 September to Sunday, 4 October. The municipality has prepared five days of activities in which the historic centre will once again take centre stage, with Constitution Square as one of the main venues.
Raya Real, Miguel Campello, Maki and María Artés, Malamanera, Javier Ojeda, and Paco Candela are among the names announced for the festivities. Six of the nine concerts deemed main by the Town Hall will take place in Constitution Square, while the other three will be held in the Caseta del Mayor, set up in the Jardines de Picasso. All announced performances will be free of charge.
The opening speech will be given by members of the Grupo de Coros y Danzas de Torrox from the Asociación Cultural La Rejana. The promotional image for the festivities has been designed by Elena Bravo, a 19-year-old local student of Graphic Design, who has incorporated recognizable elements of the municipality and its traditions into the poster.
The decoration comes after a weekend of intense activity in Torrox Costa. The Town Hall has estimated that over 10,000 people attended the Tourist Day gala and the subsequent free concert by Juan Magán at the Balcón Mirador this Saturday. The evening also included recognitions for Málaga CF and businessman José Luis López, 'El Turronero', as Tourists of the Year, as well as tributes to local businesses.
Medina expressed that he is "very proud" of the outcome of the Tourist Day. The municipality thus links that celebration with its October fair. If last Saturday's focus was on Torrox Costa, this week it will return to the historic centre, now transformed by kilometres of red and yellow bunting that, seen from the air, have already become one of the most striking images in the lead-up to the festivities.
