Today has been marked by the announcement from the Junta of Andalucía in Málaga, where an investment of 20.4 million euros has been confirmed to acquire nearly 2 million flu vaccines. The vaccination campaign will begin on October 1.
Updates on the vaccination campaign
Antonio Sanz, the first vice president of the Junta of Andalucía and councillor for the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, has detailed that there will be vaccination days without appointments. These will take place every Wednesday from November 11 to December 16, and will also include two “super Saturdays” at shopping centres.
Among the innovations of this campaign is the first-time administration of the vaccine against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which will be given to elderly residents with severe immunosuppression, extending protection beyond newborns.
Vaccination objectives
Antonio Sanz emphasised that it is essential to anticipate risks and protect the population, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly. In this regard, vaccination for those over 80 years old will begin on October 7, also including individuals with significant dependence and healthcare workers.
This campaign will allow people to live in a safer environment, as the incidence of respiratory viruses tends to increase with the arrival of cold weather. A total of 1,939,424 Andalusians were vaccinated against the flu last year, highlighting the importance of these preventive actions.
Vaccination will be available according to the established schedule, starting with the most vulnerable groups and extending to other segments of the population, such as security forces and those living with individuals recommended for vaccination.
