Nerja will celebrate its annual Pride festival on June 27, featuring a parade, recognition awards, and a musical party. The event, organized by the Axarquía LGTBIQ+ Association and the city council, aims to promote diversity and inclusion.
The municipality of Nerja, on the eastern Costa del Sol, will host its annual Pride celebration on Saturday, June 27, with a full day of activities emphasizing equality, diversity, and respect. The program includes a formal recognition ceremony, a colorful parade through the town center, and a grand musical fiesta in Plaza de los Cangrejos.
The event was presented by the councilor for Equality, Daniel Rivas, together with Fernando Díaz, representative of the Axarquía LGTBIQ+ Association, which co-organizes the celebration with the Nerja City Council. Rivas highlighted that the initiative strengthens the town's commitment to human rights and inclusion.
The day will begin at 12:00 noon with the reading of a manifesto in the Town Hall plenary hall. Immediately after, the second edition of the "Orgullo de Nerja" Recognition will take place, honoring individuals who have shown outstanding dedication to defending the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community. Last year, the award was given to local activist María González for her work in inclusive education.
At 20:45, the traditional Pride Parade will start, winding through the main streets of Nerja. Participants are encouraged to bring flags, signs, and colorful outfits. The route culminates at Plaza de los Cangrejos, a central square that will be transformed into a festive venue.
From around 21:30, the Great Pride Party will feature performances by local and regional artists, including Star Woman, Lollipop, Elettra, Carmen Soto, King Kokito, Felina, Tigretón, and The Miller Rockets. The music will span pop, drag, and electronic genres, ensuring an energetic atmosphere.
Councilor Rivas stated:
"Nerja is a municipality that believes in equality, diversity, and respect. This celebration is a reflection of our commitment to building a more inclusive society, where everyone can be themselves without fear of discrimination."
The Axarquía LGTBIQ+ Association has been active in the region for over a decade, organizing workshops, awareness campaigns, and social events. The Pride celebration in Nerja has grown steadily, attracting both residents and tourists. Last year's parade drew over 500 participants, and organizers expect a larger turnout this year.
Local businesses have also shown support, with many shops displaying rainbow decorations and offering special discounts for attendees. The city council has coordinated with local police to ensure a safe environment. Accessibility measures will be in place, and the main party area will be adapted for people with reduced mobility.
The event serves as a prelude to other Pride celebrations in the province, such as those in Málaga city and Marbella, but Nerja prides itself on its intimate, community-focused atmosphere. The 27th also marks the beginning of the summer tourist season, giving visitors a chance to experience the town's inclusive spirit.
For those wishing to participate, the parade assembly point is at the Town Hall at 20:15. After the party, public transport will be extended until 2:00 AM. More information is available at the council's equality department or through the association's social media channels.
