The PP of Málaga has requested the resignation of the socialist mayor of Frigiliana, Alejandro Herrero, and the five councillors under investigation following a thirteen-hour raid by the Civil Guard. The operation concluded without any arrests, but those involved will testify before the court in Torrox in the coming weeks.

The Secretary General of the PP of Málaga, José Ramón Carmona, called for the resignation of the mayor of Frigiliana, Alejandro Herrero (PSOE), and the five councillors investigated in an alleged corruption scheme. This request comes a day after the Civil Guard searched the Town Hall, other municipal offices, and the mayor's home for thirteen hours.

According to the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA), the investigation led by the Torrox Court focuses on possible crimes of administrative prevarication, misappropriation of public funds, fraud in contracting, organised crime, and influence peddling. No arrests have been made, but both the mayor and the councillors will be called to testify in the coming weeks.

The PP points out that "it rains on the wet" in Frigiliana

Carmona emphasised that "the PSOE is overwhelmed by corruption" and insisted that, while they respect the justice system, "there is a political responsibility". The local PP has reminded that "it has been raining on the wet" in Frigiliana and that the party "has been warning for years about alleged irregularities" in contracting, which public officials have also reported.

The raid, which began on Tuesday morning and continued into the night, mobilised several Civil Guard agents who seized documents and computer equipment. The operation is part of an investigation that has been ongoing for months and now takes a key step with the summons of those under investigation.

Community reactions and political consequences

The news has caused shock in Frigiliana, a village of about 3,000 inhabitants known for its historic centre and high tourist value. Residents consulted by this newspaper expressed surprise but trust that justice will clarify the facts. "Let’s hope that if there are guilty parties, they pay, but that the name of the village is not tarnished," commented one resident.

For its part, the PSOE of Málaga has not made any official statements so far. Municipal sources indicate that Mayor Herrero is maintaining his usual agenda and that the governing team is waiting to understand the scope of the investigation. The opposition, on the other hand, has already announced that it will demand explanations in the next plenary session.

For the citizens of Frigiliana, the situation is a cold shower in a year when the municipality was celebrating the tenth anniversary of its designation as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain. Municipal management is now under suspicion, and trust in its representatives is shaken.

The case continues its judicial course, and more details about the alleged irregularities are expected to emerge in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, political pressure on the mayor and his team is growing, with the PP leading the call for immediate accountability.
