Civil Guard agents are raiding the Frigiliana Town Hall, governed by the PSOE, this morning under a court order. Possible crimes of misconduct and embezzlement of public funds are being investigated.

The Civil Guard has burst into the Frigiliana Town Hall this morning, in the Axarquía region, under an order from the First Instance and Instruction Court number 2 of Torrox. The operation, which is still ongoing, focuses on obtaining documents and electronic files related to alleged serious administrative irregularities.

According to sources close to the investigation, which remains under judicial secrecy, the investigating judge is looking into two possible crimes: misconduct and embezzlement of public funds. Specifically, it is being examined whether the local government team, led by Socialist Mayor Alejandro Herrero, may have made arbitrary resolutions knowing their injustice, as well as a possible diversion or misuse of municipal economic resources.

The operation has surprised employees and residents of the municipality, which has about 3,000 inhabitants, who have seen agents access the main offices of the town hall early in the morning. So far, no arrests have been made, although official sources do not rule out that they may occur as the analysis of the seized material progresses.

This is not the first time a town hall in the Axarquía has been the subject of a judicial investigation for corruption. In 2023, the Torrox Town Hall was also raided by the Civil Guard in a case concerning alleged irregular contracts. In that case, the investigation ended with the indictment of several councillors.

The Civil Guard's intervention in Frigiliana is part of a line of action against municipal corruption that has led to similar raids in other parts of the province of Málaga in recent months. Agents are collecting physical and digital documentation that will be transferred to the Málaga Command for forensic analysis.

Mayor Alejandro Herrero, who has governed with an absolute majority since 2019, has not made any public statements so far. The Town Hall has remained closed to the public during the raid, and it is expected that in the coming hours the court will decide whether to summon any municipal officials for questioning.

The judicial investigation focuses on possible irregularities in the management of public funds, which has raised concerns among the residents of Frigiliana, a tourist village known for its historic centre and sea views. The mayor's office has stated that it will cooperate with the justice system to clarify the facts.

The case is being closely monitored by the municipal opposition, which has requested the mayor's appearance at the plenary session to provide explanations. For now, the judicial secrecy prevents further details about the actions being investigated from being known.
