The City Council of Archidona, in collaboration with the Junta de Andalucía, has launched two employment and training workshops in electricity and masonry with an investment of €695,000. 30 unemployed individuals will participate, receiving a scholarship and a professional certificate.
The Employment and Training Programme of the Junta de Andalucía has allocated €695,000 to two training workshops in Archidona, focused on residential electricity and masonry. Each workshop has 15 participants, who receive a scholarship during their training and will obtain the corresponding professional certificate upon completion.
Lack of qualified professionals
The mayor of Archidona, José Manuel Almohalla, highlighted during the visit of the territorial delegate for Employment, Carmen Sánchez Sierra, that “these are really trades that are very much needed.” According to the mayor, construction and installation activities are greatly limited by the shortage of qualified professionals in the current job market.
Almohalla emphasised the need to ensure generational replacement and meet the demand of the local productive fabric, for which these workshops are an essential avenue. The facilities where the classes are held are located in the Archidona Industrial Estate.
Commitment of the Junta to training
The territorial delegate for Employment, Carmen Sánchez Sierra, addressed the students: “You have been selected and you have a job, because you are going to acquire the necessary training skills to later develop the profession.” She also informed about the recent publication of a new call for grants for Vocational Training for Employment.
In the case of the province of Málaga, this call has €18.4 million and is aimed at private training entities to improve the qualifications of unemployed and employed individuals. Throughout Andalucía, the investment exceeds €106.5 million between the years 2026 and 2027, and will allow for subsidising up to 100% of the cost of training activities.
Sánchez Sierra stated that the Junta “reaffirms its commitment to modern, flexible, and quality Vocational Training for Employment, aimed at anticipating changes in the job market and conceived as a strategic tool to improve the employability of workers, boost business competitiveness, and promote a stronger and more sustainable economic growth in Andalucía.”
Local impact and future
For the residents of Archidona, these workshops represent a direct opportunity for job placement in a sector with high demand. The shortage of electricians and masons is a recurring problem in the Antequera region, and the training provided aims to alleviate this deficiency. Participants not only acquire practical skills but also receive a scholarship that allows them to train without financial worries.
The City Council of Archidona hopes that once the workshops are completed, the new professionals can join the local job market, contributing to the economic development of the area. The next call for grants for vocational training will be open to private entities, thus expanding the training offer in the province.
