Almáchar celebrates the 5th of September the 56th edition of the Ajoblanco Festival, with free distribution of 4,000 litres of cold soup and shuttle buses from Vélez-Málaga.
The Málaga municipality of Almáchar will host this Saturday, September 5, the 56th edition of its Ajoblanco Festival, where more than 4,000 litres of this cold soup made by the locals will be distributed for free. The celebration, declared of Tourist Singularity and of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia, has been recognised by the FAO as an Important System of World Agricultural Heritage (Sipam) since April 2018, according to Diario Sur.
To facilitate access and avoid parking issues, a special free shuttle bus service from Vélez-Málaga has been set up. The programme will kick off at 10:00 hours and will include ajoblanco learning workshops, guided tours of the old town, raisin chopping workshops, the inauguration of the travelling exhibition of the V Painting Competition 'Windows to Art and Moscatel', promoted by the Moscatel Association, parades of verdiales groups alongside El Borge, and tastings of local products and wines.
The central institutional event will take place in the Plaza de España with the reading of the proclamation by comedian and presenter Manuel Sarria Cuevas and the presentation of the Ajoblanco 2026 Awards. This year, they will recognise the work of Adolfo Cisneros (Ajoblanco Almáchar), the programme 'Techo de Cristal' (Ajoblanco Axarquía), the 'El Pimpi' Foundation (Ajoblanco Málaga), the Village of Adamuz (Ajoblanco Andalucía), and the Litoral Magazine (Ajoblanco María Zambrano).
The day will be completed with a children's area, the traditional Flamenco Night with singing and guitar, a popular solidarity fair in the Paseo de la Axarquía, and the typical round songs and zambomba to close the celebration.
