The access tunnel to the Botanical Park of La Concepción, in Ciudad Jardín, showcases a new 315 m² mural that pays tribute to its flora and architecture. The work, created by The Ad Store, has been advised by the Friends of the Botanical Garden Association.
The access tunnel to the Botanical Park of La Concepción, in the Ciudad Jardín district of Málaga, unveils a new mural that honours this natural space. The work, covering 315 square metres of painted surface, has been carried out by the creative agency The Ad Store, according to the newspaper SUR.
The mural is divided into two sides. One wall represents the local fauna, featuring birds, insects, and amphibians, which blend with the real vegetation of the garden, such as olives and biznagas. For this part, the agency has received guidance from the Friends of the Botanical Garden Association.
The other side illustrates the flora and architecture of the surroundings, referencing the Casa Palacio, the Panteón, the sculpture of the Nymph with pitcher, the San Telmo Aqueduct, and the municipal market of the district. On this occasion, the agency collaborated with the district and the Botanical Garden itself. The tiles, engraving, and modernist art transform the illustration into a tribute to the history and botanical richness of the place.
This is not the first intervention of this kind in the city. The Sustainability Area of the Málaga City Council has promoted over 30 murals spread across various neighbourhoods with the aim of raising environmental awareness through urban art.
Also in Ciudad Jardín, another mural decorates one side of the Julián Torralba football field. Measuring 16.4 metres in length and 4 metres high, this work, also by The Ad Store, combines the cultural integrity and the natural and artistic diversity of the district. Other interventions in the area include the facades of educational centres, the perimeter wall of the football field, and the parking booth of the Parque del Sur.
Since 2014, initiatives such as “Málaga how I love you?!” have led to numerous works on walls. In Teatinos, artist Eduardo Luque “Lalone” has painted a mural on the southern facade of the Higher School of Dramatic Art (ESAD) depicting the Greek goddess Thalia sitting on the Planet, with the Roman Theatre, the Alcazaba, and the Mediterranean mountain in the background. Another canvas associated with this programme can be found in the Sixto neighbourhood, on Carretera de Cádiz.
The “Málaga Más Bella” programme, promoted by the Citizen Participation Area along with the Kartio Women’s Association and Arrabal-AID, has carried out numerous murals in neighbourhoods and educational centres. Among them, notable creations include those on the stairs of Pintor Joaquín Sorolla avenue, in front of the Baños del Carmen, the Antonio Banderas promenade, in Carretera de Cádiz, or the Doctor Vargas Machuca square, in Bailén-Miraflores. In the city centre, there are up to five murals spread across Plaza de la Marina, Parque Auditorio, El Ejido, and Plaza Nueva Esperanza.
These interventions aim to beautify the city while simultaneously raising awareness among society, whether through tributes like that of the Botanical Garden or through works that invite reflection.
