The Litosa committee calls for a protest from September 25 to 29, coinciding with the fair, and a rally on September 20. The City Council and the unions will meet on the 24th at Sercla to agree on minimum services.
The works council of Litosa, the municipal cleaning company of Torremolinos, has called a strike during the San Miguel fair, from September 25 to 29, and a rally on Sunday September 20, the day of the pilgrimage, to inform residents of the fear of losing jobs due to the privatisation of the service. This is reported by Diario Sur.
The outsourcing process, estimated at 168.7 million euros, is already underway and has received bids after the deadline closed. The committee claims that the current workforce exceeds 320 workers, including summer reinforcements, on the payroll until the end of the month, and that the tender anticipates fewer services than those currently provided by Litosa.
“Someone is not telling the truth,” says the committee president, Diego Lara, who demands written guarantees for the workers.
A meeting between the City Council and the committee is scheduled for September 24 at the Extrajudicial System for the Resolution of Labour Conflicts in Andalusia (Sercla) to agree on minimum cleaning and waste collection shifts. If no agreement is reached, the strike will go ahead.
Among the reasons, the committee points out that the tender is divided into two lots, which in their opinion will reorganise the workforce, and that from the second year the contractor will be able to reorganise the staff, opening the door to layoffs. Lara apologises to the public: “We apologise to the public, but we have no other choice but to defend families.”
The mayor, Margarita del Cid, has sent an open letter to Litosa staff stating that the data justifying the outsourcing cannot be directly translated into fewer workers. According to municipal sources, the technical reports distinguish between the estimated equivalent workers needed to fulfil the contract, set at 170.333, and the actual people who will ultimately carry out the tasks. The City Council reminds that the contractor is obliged to respect the collective agreement and to ensure the necessary staff, and announces control over working conditions and retirements and early retirements.
