Torremolinos has become the Andalusian destination with the most hotel stays during the past month of June, according to data from the Hotel Occupancy Survey of the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The coastal municipality accumulated 572,675 hotel stays, surpassing Seville, which reached 537,669. This record positions the town as the leader in the autonomous community in this key tourism indicator.
The number of travellers who stayed in hotels in Torremolinos in June rose to 121,674, representing an 11.8% increase compared to the same month in 2025. In absolute terms, the municipality received 12,855 more visitors than the previous year. The pull of domestic tourism has been decisive: 38,622 Spanish travellers chose Torremolinos, an increase of 28.2% compared to June 2025, with 8,508 additional people.
The domestic market represents the largest share of travellers for Torremolinos, accounting for 28.7% of the total in 2025, and its recovery is driving the good results of the destination. The average stay was 4.71 days, and hotel occupancy reached 79.39%. Furthermore, employment in the hotel sector grew: 3,737 people worked in the municipality's hotels during June, 132 more than a year earlier.
First Half Summary
In the first six months of 2026, Torremolinos has recorded 554,432 travellers, a 6.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Domestic tourism has been the main driver of this growth, with an increase of 26.2% (35,985 more travellers). Total stays for the semester grew by 3.2%, while those generated by Spanish tourists increased by 22.7%, which represents 96,400 additional stays.
These figures reflect the consolidation of the recovery of the domestic market, which has been key to maintaining hotel activity in a context of some slowdown in international tourism in other destinations.
Forecasts for July and August
The Association of Business Owners of the Costa del Sol (AEHCOS) has estimated a hotel occupancy rate for Torremolinos in July of 93.7%, which would make it the destination with the highest occupancy rate in the province of Malaga. The provincial average stands at 86.3%, slightly below the 87.2% recorded in July 2025.
For August, forecasts indicate that Torremolinos will again lead hotel occupancy in the province with 95.8%, nearly ten points above the provincial average estimated at 84.9%. This figure is seven points lower than that achieved in August of last year. The pull of domestic tourism and travellers' confidence in the destination explain these expectations, positioning the municipality as a tourist benchmark on the Costa del Sol.
The mayor of Torremolinos has positively assessed the data and highlighted the efforts of the hotel sector and the promotion of the destination. The town's hotels are preparing to face a summer with high occupancy, which translates into employment and economic activity for the municipality.
