The San Miguel pilgrimage gathered more than 200,000 people in Torremolinos this Sunday, with 54 carts in a procession that traversed the streets to the Pinar de los Manantiales. The fair kicks off on Friday 25 with the opening speech by the Gómez Quesada family.
The pilgrimage of San Miguel brought together over 200,000 people in Torremolinos, according to data provided by the Town Hall. The event, held on the Sunday before the start of the patronal festivities, opened the festive calendar of the town with a procession made up of 54 carts.
The day began at 9:00 AM with a mass and the blessing of pilgrims at the hermitage. Afterwards, the image of the patron was moved to the Avenida de los Manantiales, the gathering point for the carts and the venue for the Holy Mass. At 10:30 AM, the procession set off towards the Pinar de los Manantiales along a route that passed through the Avenida de los Manantiales, the Costa del Sol square, Palma de Mallorca Avenue, Joan Miró Avenue, Rafael Quintana Rosado street, the Benalmádena road, and the Pozuelo crossing.
The mayor, Margarita del Cid, highlighted the significance of the event for the municipality.
“As every Sunday before our fair begins, Torremolinos experiences one of the most important moments, this pilgrimage, on a day of togetherness where our patron travels the streets of our city to Los Manantiales. A wonderful day, with a procession made up of 54 carts.”
The mayor thanked the organisational team and emphasised that the procession took place without any incidents.
“I want to thank the organisation, which has been working since early on to ensure everything runs perfectly and that horse riders, pilgrims, tractors, and carts move in harmony, without any incidents. San Miguel protects us every year.”
Del Cid also mentioned the participation of the Málaga Local Police on horseback, which opened the procession as part of the institutional collaboration between both town halls.
The San Miguel fair will begin on Friday, September 25, with the opening speech by the Gómez Quesada family and will continue until Tuesday, the 29th, the day of the patron, Saint Michael the Archangel. Regarding the speakers, the mayor noted that they are “a beloved family in Torremolinos” and added that they are “one of the great architects of the preservation of our traditions over time.”
