Atalaya Park hosted the 'Carmen Acedo' Neighbourhood Festival on Saturday, with high participation from residents and associations. Awards were given to the Exemplary Citizens of 2026.
The Atalaya Park in Antequera held a new edition of the 'Carmen Acedo' Neighbourhood Festival on 19th September, a day that brought together residents from the municipality, its neighbourhoods, and local districts around activities for all ages, popular paella, and live musical performances.
The event, organised by the City Council of Antequera through the Citizen Cooperation Area and with the collaboration of local associations, took place throughout the day with a programme that included inclusive and awareness-raising games, activities for children and families, food and drink services, and live music.
The mayor, Manolo Barón, accompanied by the deputy mayor in charge of Citizen Cooperation, Alberto Arana, and a broad representation of the Government Team, shared various moments of the day with attendees and representatives of the participating neighbourhood associations.
“The Neighbourhood Festival once again demonstrates the strength of the neighbourhood movement in Antequera and its local districts,” stated the City Council, which positively valued the response from residents and the involvement of the associations.
One of the central moments was the presentation of awards to the Exemplary Citizens of 2026, recognitions granted at the proposal of the neighbourhood associations to highlight individuals linked to their neighbourhoods for their dedication and commitment.
The awardees in this edition were Josefa Marfil Luque, “La Kika” (San Juan Neighbourhood Association); Mª del Carmen and Teresa Sánchez Campos (San Miguel); José Sánchez González (El Arenal); Manuel Navas Hidalgo (Veracruz); Pascual Ruiz Roldán (Puerta de Granada); Jerónimo Chacón González (Partido de Serrato); Rosa María Sánchez García (Bobadilla Estación); Lucas Mora Cortés (La Fuga de Juan García, Bobadilla); and Juan Morales Arrebola (Cartaojal).
The festival retains the name 'Carmen Acedo' in memory of someone who for years played a significant role in the associative and neighbourhood movement in Antequera. The City Council thanked the work of the neighbourhood associations and all the individuals who collaborated in organising the event.
