Mijas Town Hall has awarded the project to cover the three entrances of La Candelaria car park in Las Lagunas with photovoltaic panels. The initiative aims to generate clean energy and reduce the electricity bill.
Mijas Town Hall has taken the first step to turn La Candelaria car park in Las Lagunas into an energy self-sufficient space. The Councillor for Infrastructure, Juan José Torres, has announced the formalisation of the contract for the drafting of the project, which includes the installation of photovoltaic panels at the three vehicle entrances.
The company Ingeniería Atecsur SL will be responsible for developing the project, for an amount of €24,994.64 and an execution period of 120 days. Torres explained that the accesses will be covered with self-supporting metal structures that will hold the solar panels, allowing energy to be generated for the car park's own consumption.
In addition to the photovoltaic installation, the project includes the renewal of the pavement on the ramps and the waterproofing of the underlying platform. A system for capturing and evacuating rainwater infiltrations at the construction joints will also be implemented, and pedestrian access will be reformed to improve accessibility.
The councillor pointed out that the aim is to reduce the operational costs of the car park and improve its financial efficiency. By generating its own electricity, the car park will be less vulnerable to supply cuts and fluctuations in the energy market, granting it greater autonomy.
Photovoltaic solar energy is a clean and renewable source that does not emit polluting gases. Its use in the public car park will help reduce the municipality's ecological footprint and promote sustainable practices, in line with the environmental policies of Mijas Town Hall.
The planned works also include roadworks, landscaping, and paving, as well as the provision of public services and necessary equipment for the space's use. Torres highlighted that the project will turn the car park into an energy self-generating building, an example of efficiency and sustainability.
For the residents of Las Lagunas, this initiative will mean a more modern and efficient car park, with lower maintenance costs that could reflect in the rates. The Town Hall expects the works to begin once the project drafting is completed, in approximately four months.
The installation of solar panels in public infrastructures is one of the lines of work for the Infrastructure area in the coming years. The councillor did not rule out extending this initiative to other municipal car parks if the results are positive.
