The Mijas Town Hall has mobilised around twenty workers to carry out painting, plumbing, and repair work in the educational centres of the municipality during the summer.

Mijas does not rest in summer. While students enjoy their holidays, a brigade of 20 municipal workers is hard at work every day making the public schools shine. The mayor, Ana Mata, today supervised the work at the CEIP El Chaparral in La Cala, accompanied by the Education councillor, Juan José Torres.

Painting, plumbing, and thorough cleaning

The tasks range from painting classrooms and hallways to checking sockets, lights, windows, and blinds. Also, manholes and water tanks are cleaned, weeds are cleared, and trees are pruned in the surroundings. All of this is done with the Town Hall's own resources, coordinated by the departments of Education, Energy, and Occupational Risk Prevention.

The workers check the fire extinguishers in collaboration with Risk Prevention, and the elevators are serviced with the Energy department. Rodent control and disinfection complete the summer plan.

Urgent actions at four centres

This summer, four schools are receiving specific interventions. At the CEIP Virgen de la Peña, the Infant playground and the kitchen, bathroom, and dining room sewage pipes are being repaired. At the CEIP Las Cañadas, the sills of 40 windows are being replaced, and walls and fences are being painted with plastic paint.

At the CEIP San Sebastián, fences are being installed to prevent unauthorised access and vandalism. Finally, at the CEIP Jardín Botánico, the perimeter fence in the Infant area is being repaired.

The mayor has emphasised that this work is being carried out “to ensure that the centres are in optimal conditions when the students arrive.” The actions fall within the municipal competencies in educational matters, according to current regulations.

For the parents of Mijas, this news is a relief: their children will return in September to freshly painted classrooms and without leaks. However, the workers will need to hurry: the term starts in just over a month.
