Ronda hosts the first edition of the World Ham Championship from September 4 to 6 at the Convento de Santo Domingo, featuring a contest to choose the best ham in the world and awards to personalities such as Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas.

The World Ham Championship arrives in Ronda with its first edition, which will take place from September 4 to 6 at the Convento de Santo Domingo. The event, driven by entrepreneur Enrique Tomás, will bring together producers, experts, and lovers of this product around a contest that will crown the best ham in the world.

The presentation took place this Monday with the participation of Ronda's Tourism Councillor, Ángel Martínez, Enrique Tomás, and bullfighter Fran Rivera. Martínez expressed gratitude that Ronda has been chosen as the city for this event, which coincides with the Goyesca: “We are very grateful that a figure like Enrique Tomás has chosen our city to carry out the first World Ham Championship and to resolve that dichotomy we have when someone asks us which is the best ham in the world.”

“I fell in love with Ronda when I came and knew it was the ideal place to realise that dream I have had for years, which is to be able to answer the question I am always asked: which is the best ham,” said Enrique Tomás.

Eight finalist producers will compete for the title of Best Ham in the World, representing four regions: Guijuelo (Chacinerías Díaz and Aljomar), Jabugo (Consorcio de Jabugo and Micsa Hermanos Velázquez), Extremadura (Señorío de Montanera and Montesano), and Los Pedroches (Ibedul and Sierra Morena).

The “Ham Lovers” Awards will recognise national and international personalities. Among those awarded the Gold Medal are Fran Rivera, Tana Rivera, El Turronero, Joan Manuel Serrat, and the Mayor of Ronda. International recognitions will also be given to Brad Pitt, Georgina Rodríguez, Antonio Banderas, David Bisbal, and Elsa Pataky.

The medal ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 5 at 20:30 at the Convento de Santo Domingo, prior to the gala dinner of the Goyesca. The public will be able to visit the event during the three days; entry to the tasting experience costs 15 euros and includes Iberian ham and water. The hours are Friday from 11:00 to 21:00, Saturday from 11:00 to 19:00, and Sunday from 11:00 to 13:00.
