The Municipal Library Network of Fuengirola has received 23,549 visitors during May and June, an 18% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The Councillor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, highlights the increase in users and the success of cultural activities.

The Municipal Library Network of Fuengirola has closed the months of May and June 2026 with a record balance: 23,549 visitors, representing an 18% increase compared to the same two-month period last year. Councillor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, presented the data today at a press conference, highlighting that the upward trend has been maintained since the beginning of the year.

Los Boliches study room doubles its usage

One of the most striking figures is that of the Los Boliches study room, which has doubled its monthly usage compared to previous months, with 2,167 users in May and June. However, the Javier Castillo study room, located in the Lope de Vega library, remains the most frequented by Fuengirola students, with a total of 8,752 users in the same period.

The total number of members of the library network is also on the rise, reaching 39,767 members, with 207 new registrations recorded in May and June. Romero has described these results as “excellent” and noted that they reflect “the magnificent performance of the libraries and the high participation in the activities offered.”

151 activities with 24% more participants

During these two months, the library network programmed 151 activities, compared to 121 in the same period of 2025. Participation in these activities grew by 24%, reaching figures that the councillor did not detail but described as “very positive.” Among the highlighted events, the VIII Children's and Youth Literature Conference and the Children's and Youth Book Fair were held in May, attracting 2,713 participants.

On June 19, the children's reading clubs concluded, featuring storyteller Jackeline de Barros, and the adult clubs, with the club coordinated by writer Vicente Luis Mora around the novel ‘Nada’, attended by all the reading clubs in the city.

Upcoming events: literary anniversaries and the first birthday of the Gloria Fuertes Library

In the coming months, the library network is preparing special activities to commemorate anniversaries such as the 109th birthday of Gloria Fuertes (July 28), the 83rd birthday of Isabel Allende (August 2), and the 90th anniversary of the death of Federico García Lorca (August 18). There will also be space for comics, with World Spiderman Day (August 1) and the 109th birthday of Jack Kirby (August 28).

Additionally, on July 28 and 29, the first anniversary of the opening of the Gloria Fuertes Library in Los Boliches will be celebrated, with children's activities in the facilities. Romero has encouraged the residents of Fuengirola to continue using the libraries and emphasized that these figures “confirm the good moment the network is experiencing, which continues to grow both in users and activities, consolidating itself as a cultural reference space in the city.”
