The Municipal Library Network of Fuengirola reaches 39,999 members after gaining 207 users in July and August, months in which it recorded 15,779 visits and added 1,229 new items.
The Municipal Library Network of Fuengirola has closed the summer with 39,999 members, after adding 207 new users during the months of July and August 2026. This was announced by the Councillor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, at a press conference where he presented the activity report of these facilities during the summer period.
The libraries recorded 15,779 visits in those two months, a figure that remains virtually stable compared to the same period in 2025, when 15,882 users were counted. The councillor has assessed the overall evolution of the network and highlighted that activity has remained constant throughout the summer.
The chapter of new collections is the one that has experienced the most pronounced jump: 1,229 items have been added, compared to 338 incorporated in the same period last year. This increase comes after the arrival of three new professionals to the network, which has allowed for the strengthening of management and cataloguing tasks.
Romero has focused on the evolution of the Gloria Fuertes Library, which on July 29 celebrated its first anniversary since opening in the new facilities. In this first year, it has received 47,853 visitors, added 772 new members, and recorded 25,781 loans, making it the library with the highest number of loans within the municipal network.
“The data from the Gloria Fuertes Library demonstrates that the investment we made in its new facilities has received a magnificent response from the people of Fuengirola. It has become a reference point within our network and a highly used space for reading, consultation, and borrowing materials.”
During the summer, as is usual, the influx of students to study rooms decreases. The Javier Castillo study room at the Elola Complex maintains special hours for the exam period: it opens from 9:00 AM to 12:00 AM from August 20 until September 15.
The network now faces the months of greatest activity in the calendar. Among the upcoming events, the councillor has announced the Perita Cuentos Fuengirola Festival, which will take place from September 16 to 19 at the Parque del Sol, and the presentation of the VI Fuengirola Leyendo Award.
The sixth season of the Fuengirola entre letras cycle will also kick off, featuring Mexican writer Brenda Navarro on September 30 and Lucía Solla, author of Comerás flores, on October 1. Another notable date is October 26, with the presentation of the V International Illustrated Album Award Ciudad de Fuengirola. The winners of this edition are Charo Pita and Marjorie Pourchet, author and illustrator of Tira que tira; at the same event, an honorary mention will be awarded to Txabi Arnal and Roger Olmos for Diez gatos aburridos.
Additionally, during these months, the first edition of the Encounters around the illustrated album will be held, a new initiative whose programming will be presented soon.
“After a summer in which our libraries have maintained constant activity, we now face the most intense months of the calendar with a very complete programme designed for all audiences. We want libraries to continue being spaces for meeting, knowledge, culture, and participation for all the people of Fuengirola.”
