The balances from the Ministry of the Interior reflect 4,049 criminal offences between January and September 2025, a 10% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. The municipality had seen increases of 16% in 2022 and 17% in 2023.
The criminal offences recorded in Mijas between January and September 2025 fell by 10% compared to the same period in 2024, decreasing from 4,500 to 4,049, according to the official balances from the Ministry of the Interior. This figure breaks the upward trend of previous years: between January and September 2022, crimes increased by 16%, from 3,322 to 3,855, and a year later, in the same period of 2023, they rose again by 17%, reaching 4,510 offences.
This evolution signifies a change in trend for the municipality, which had accumulated a 35% increase over those two years. The councillor for Local Police, Juan Carlos Cuevas, claims that the correction is due to the planning of the municipal force.
“We come from years where crime was growing significantly, and reversing such a trend requires organisation, planning, and a lot of work. That is exactly what we are doing from the Local Police”
The decrease is not limited to the overall count. Between January and September 2025, conventional crime also dropped by 7.4%, violent and intimidation thefts decreased by 25.4%, forceful thefts fell by 21.6%, and forceful home thefts dropped by 23.3%.
The daily activity of the Local Police in August shows other figures: 3,119 cases handled through COTA, the incident and call management system from the Headquarters, 18 arrests, 133 procedures processed, and actions related to 1,759 vehicles and 1,023 people. In the preventive and control area, 1,347 actions were carried out under the General Traffic Regulations, 84 under municipal ordinances, and 79 under Organic Law 4/2015 on citizen security protection, in addition to 67 reports, 13 urban interventions, and ten concerning establishments.
The councillor argues that the reduction is supported by this less visible work.

Cuevas continues to advocate for more Guardia Civil personnel in the municipality, a request that the City Council directs to the Central Government and the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, to reinforce the human and material resources of the Benemérita in Mijas.
