The full council of Mijas unanimously approves the Police Merit Medal for Pedro Tejón Jaime and public accolades for three local police officers and a citizen. The awards will be presented tomorrow, October 1, at the Local Police patron's event.
The full council of Mijas Town Hall has unanimously approved two proposals from the Local Police Department to recognise over thirty years of service by officer Pedro Tejón Jaime and two police actions that led to the arrest of individuals attempting to flee.
The agreements include the Police Merit Medal with blue distinction for Tejón Jaime and public congratulations to three local police officers and citizen Daniel Martínez García. The honorees will receive these recognitions tomorrow, October 1, during the Local Police patron's event, alongside other awards for additional officers.
“When we talk about police work, we talk about situations like these: chasing a vehicle that flees, intervening despite the risk, and managing to arrest its occupants. That work deserves recognition and also our support,” stated the first deputy mayor and Local Police councillor, Juan Carlos Cuevas.
Officer Fernando Arribas Moya and officers Rafael M. Castillo Crouquet and Noé Francisco Cheli Martín receive congratulations for their intervention on August 18. The police chased and intercepted a vehicle fleeing after an alleged theft by the method of snatching on the Mijas coast. The operation resulted in three arrests and a collision with the police vehicle in which the officer was injured.
“There are risks that often go unmentioned in the account of an arrest. In this case, one of our officers was injured while performing his duty,” Cuevas highlighted.
The council also recognises Daniel Martínez García, manager of an establishment in the Zoco Shopping Centre. On September 9, his assistance helped block the escape route and facilitate the arrest of an individual fleeing from officers who had an active arrest warrant.
“Daniel provided crucial help at that moment. His cooperation deserves public gratitude from Mijas,” the councillor stated.
For his part, the medal for Pedro Tejón Jaime acknowledges his more than thirty years of professional service. Cuevas emphasised that “a career like this is built by working for many years, attending to citizens and responding when needed. This medal recognises that consistency and dedication.”
Both proposals received support from all municipal groups. “Tomorrow we will be able to personally convey this recognition shared by the entire council. We acknowledge a long career, a difficult police intervention, and crucial citizen collaboration. These are concrete reasons to feel proud of those who contribute to the safety of Mijas,” concluded Cuevas.
