A mobile photography workshop organised by the Escuela Nómada de Fotografía and Fundación Unicaja has brought together seniors from the Active Participation Centre of Marbella. The initiative aims to foster creativity and combat unwanted loneliness.
The seniors of Marbella have shown that age is not a barrier to learning. A mobile photography workshop, organised by the Escuela Nómada de Fotografía and Fundación Unicaja, has turned a group from the Active Participation Centre for Seniors (CPA) in Marbella into true image hunters. Over several sessions, participants have learned to view their surroundings with new eyes, using their phone cameras as tools for expression and social connection.
A Practical Workshop That Takes to the Streets
The proposal, designed specifically for this group, began with a theoretical session at the centre itself. There, the monitors from the Escuela Nómada explained basic concepts of composition, light, and framing in a simple and approachable manner. The participatory methodology allowed each attendee to ask questions and share their doubts without haste, creating a relaxed atmosphere.
But the best part came in the second meeting. The group took to the streets of Marbella, mobile in hand, to put into practice what they had learned. They explored everyday corners of the municipality, searching for scenes that, when viewed calmly, revealed hidden beauty. The practical outing sparked everyone's creativity and demonstrated that photography is within anyone's reach.
Emotion and Diplomas at the Closing
The final touch of the workshop was a sharing session filled with emotion. Each participant selected their best images and explained the story behind each one. It was an enriching moment where laughter, anecdotes, and, above all, a new way of looking at the world were shared. The awarding of diplomas was not just a formality: it symbolised the satisfaction of having overcome a challenge and the eagerness to continue learning.
Rosa María Pascual, director of CPA Marbella, highlighted the social impact of the initiative.
“This workshop has been especially helpful for what we know as unwanted loneliness. For those people who are usually alone in their homes, coming to this workshop is of enormous help, it reduces their stress and creates a bond with others, for this reason, we are very grateful for such initiatives,”she stated.
More Than Photography: An Antidote Against Isolation
According to the organisers, photography holds a special value in this stage of life. It invites calm observation, exercises memory, and stimulates creativity. Moreover, it promotes social activity and strengthens bonds among participants. For the seniors of Marbella, this workshop has been an opportunity to leave their homes, meet new people, and share experiences.
The initiative, which has already proven successful, could be repeated in other centres across the province. For now, attendees take away more than just a diploma: a renewed sense of hope and the certainty that it is never too late to discover a new passion. And all of this, thanks to a mobile phone and the desire to view the world with curiosity.
