Estepona's City Council has unanimously approved the transfer of a municipal property located at 170 Terraza Street to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) for twenty years. The space will allow for the continuation of free psychological support, physiotherapy, and social care services for patients and their families.
The Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) in Estepona will have a new municipal premises for the next two decades, following the unanimous approval by the Corporation's Plenary. The property, located at 170 Terraza Street, ensures the continuity of free care that the organization provides to cancer patients and their families in the municipality.
The initiative, driven by the Councillor for Social Integration and Social Services, María Aguilar, aims to provide the association with suitable facilities to carry out its support work. The premises include three rooms, one of which is designed to offer more personalized care with greater privacy.
This room will primarily be used for consultations with the social worker, who provides services at the association three times a week, as well as for initial interviews with new patients. It will also be set up as a reserved space for individuals who need to try on wigs in an intimate and respectful environment.
From its headquarters, the AECC offers psychological support, social care, physiotherapy, and hospital and home accompaniment, all free of charge. Additionally, it organizes workshops and activities throughout the year aimed at improving the physical and emotional well-being of those affected by cancer.
Councillor María Aguilar has stated that “this transfer represents support for the important work carried out by the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Estepona and ensures that it can continue to develop its activities in suitable facilities to care for patients and families.” She also highlighted the City Council's commitment to social entities that provide essential services to residents.
With this decision, the City Council strengthens its collaboration with an organization considered a benchmark in comprehensive care for cancer patients and support for their families, as well as promoting prevention, awareness, and research actions against cancer. The twenty-year transfer provides stability for the association to plan its services in the long term.
Residents of Estepona who need the services of the AECC will be able to access them at the new address in the coming weeks, once the handover of the premises is formalized. The association will continue to offer its programs free of charge, as it has done so far, with the support of the City Council.
