Vélez-Málaga has launched a new direct bus connection between Torre del Mar Station and Málaga Bus Station this Thursday, July 30. This is the intercity M-380 line, which will have six complete round trips from Monday to Friday, as reported by the Vélez-Málaga City Council.
Buses will depart from Torre del Mar at 07:00, 09:30, 12:40, 15:40, 18:00, and 20:50 hours, while departures from Málaga will be at 08:15, 10:45, 13:45, 16:40, 19:40, and 21:50 hours. The new route complements the services already operating following Vélez-Málaga's integration into the Metropolitan Transport Consortium of the Málaga Area on May 1.
The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, highlighted that this line responds to the increase in demand recorded since the integration. “It represents a new step towards further improving public transport in our municipality,” he stated. Lupiáñez explained that the launch of the M-380 is the result of a meeting held on July 15 with the managing director of the Consortium, Francisco Javier Berlanga, and other officials from the entity.
The mayor has asked for understanding from users during the adaptation process. “We are aware that the integration into the Consortium has led to a significant increase in demand. We will continue to progressively adapt the services to meet the needs of the residents,” he added.
For his part, the delegated councillor for Transport, Celestino Rivas, emphasised that joining the Consortium has been “a historic advance for Vélez-Málaga.” “Almost 90,000 residents enjoy all the advantages of this system,” he recalled. Rivas noted that “the significant increase in demand demonstrates the success of the integration” and assured that “the service will continue to be progressively adapted to the needs of users with new improvements.”
The M-380 line adds to the existing connections in the municipality, which have seen increased usage since the integration into the Consortium. The City Council expects this new route to alleviate congestion during peak hours and provide a direct alternative for residents of Torre del Mar to travel to the capital. The schedules have been designed to cover the busiest times, with morning, midday, and afternoon services.
The City Council has indicated that this is “the first step in a process that will continue in the coming months to keep incorporating improvements and offer residents an increasingly useful and efficient service.” There is no plan to rule out increasing the number of trips if demand justifies it, as well as adjusting schedules based on user needs.
The launch of the M-380 reinforces the government team's commitment to public transport as an alternative to private vehicles, in a context of growing concern for sustainability and mobility in the metropolitan area of Málaga. Residents of Torre del Mar and other areas of the municipality will benefit from this direct connection, which avoids transfers and reduces travel times.
