The town of Málaga will be one of the beneficiaries of the new Surfacing Plan presented by the Junta of Andalucía, which includes an investment of €151.5 million to improve a thousand kilometres of roads in the region.
Details of the Surfacing Plan
The Minister of Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, highlighted that this plan constitutes “the largest investment effort to improve road surfaces in the regional road network in the last 20 years.”
The Plan aims to act on 137 roads owned by the regional government across the eight provinces of Andalucía. The works will begin in the summer and will extend until the last quarter of the year.
Investments and benefits
Muñoz-Atanet explained that the priority interventions will focus on the most deteriorated roads. He also emphasized that over 97% of the movements of people and goods are made by road, making the maintenance of the road network a priority for the Andalusian Government.
The works will include improvements on motorways such as the A-92, covering more than 126 kilometres in sections of Almería, Granada, Málaga, and Sevilla; as well as work on the A-357, which is currently being executed at night.
Other examples of intervention include the Jerez-Los Barrios motorway (A-381), the A-331 road from Lucena to Iznájar in Córdoba, and the A-319 road in Jaén.
The plan also includes a prior analysis of the state of the road network, which will ensure the proper execution of the works, as well as the repair of potholes, rethinking of pavements, and improvement of horizontal signage elements.
Additionally, the Ministry of Development has allocated €10 million for bridges and structures, €14 million for signage and containment systems, and €22 million for vegetation control, thus consolidating a significant increase in investment dedicated to roads in recent years.
