The Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra has unveiled its programme for the 2026/2027 season, featuring 36 concerts between the Teatro Cervantes and the Edgar Neville Auditorium. It includes world premieres and the participation of conductor Alondra de la Parra.
The Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra (OFM) presented its programme for the 2026/2027 season on Wednesday, which will include a total of 36 concerts spread across the 37th Subscription Season and the 15th Cycle La Filarmónica Frente al Mar. The event, held in the Mirror Hall of Málaga City Hall, was attended by the mayor, Francisco de la Torre, the councillor for Culture, María Ana Pineda, and the principal and artistic director of the ensemble, José María Moreno.
A subscription season with big names
The Subscription Season will kick off in early October with an evening dedicated to Mexican music, featuring works by Márquez, Moncayo, and Revueltas, including the famous "Night of the Mayans." Throughout the season, composers such as Mahler, Brahms, Beethoven, Strauss, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Ravel, Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Elgar, Britten, Bach, and Vivaldi will also take centre stage, alongside 20th-century pieces like Stravinsky's "The Firebird" and Rachmaninov's First Symphony.
Among the highlights is the OFM's first performance of works for four pianos and orchestra, a technical and artistic challenge that promises to be one of the season's peak moments. The programme will also include a special Christmas concert featuring John Rutter's "Gloria" and a selection from Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker."
Top-level soloists and world premieres
Artistic excellence will be supported by the presence of top-level soloists, including Thomas Enhco, Giulia Semenzano, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Vanessa Goikoetxea, Alexei Volodin, Kirill Troussov, and Francesco Di Rosa, as well as the collaboration of the National Choir of Spain, the Coral Cármina Nova, and the Málaga Opera Choir. The soprano from Málaga, Berna Perles, will perform Richard Strauss's "Four Songs Op. 27," a nod to local talent.
Conductor José María Moreno will share the podium with prestigious guests such as José Luis Gómez, Karel Mark Chichon, Yeruham Scharovsky, Nayden Todorov, Alvise Casellati, and the Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra, considered one of the leading international references today. Additionally, the season will feature the world premiere of the Violin Concerto by Málaga composer Ernesto Aurignac, performed by violinist Jesús Reina.
The cycle by the sea focuses on young talents
Meanwhile, the Cycle La Filarmónica Frente al Mar will return to the Edgar Neville Auditorium with six concerts in which the orchestra will continue its commitment to young conductors and performers, such as Jesús Berrio, José Luis López Antón, Guillermo Pastrana, and Jesús Reina. The programme will feature works by Haydn, Mozart, Dvořák, Beethoven, Sibelius, Nielsen, Schubert, and Tchaikovsky, and will also incorporate Spanish music with compositions by Joaquín Turina and Marcos Fernández, whose Cello Concerto will receive its world premiere.
Subscriptions and tickets will go on sale in the coming weeks through the usual channels of the Teatro Cervantes and the OFM website. For the residents of Málaga, the season represents a unique opportunity to enjoy top-level music without leaving the city, with prices ranging from 15 to 60 euros depending on the location and cycle. The concerts in the Frente al Mar cycle, held outdoors at the Edgar Neville Auditorium, are particularly popular among families and tourists seeking cultural activities during the summer months.
