The Teatro Cervantes will host the gala for the Málaga City Awards 2026 on September 17. The City Council announced the winners in eight categories on Thursday, recognising the achievements of individuals and entities in areas such as tourism, culture, and solidarity.
The Gran Hotel Miramar, Grupo Safamotor, Aganova, Juanfran Funes, Carlos Álvarez, Teléfono de la Esperanza, the 'Healthy Screens' campaign, and the Fundación Aula del Mar Mediterráneo are the winners of the Málaga City Awards 2026. The mayor, Francisco de la Torre, presided over the meeting where the awardees were chosen after evaluating the submitted nominations.
Tourism, Business and Technology: the Engines of the City
In the Tourism category, the award will go to the Gran Hotel Miramar, one of the most emblematic hotels in the province. The constant influx of visitors and the wide range of hotel offerings make this sector a key economic pillar for Málaga.
The Business and Commerce section goes to Grupo Safamotor, a company dedicated to automotive and mobility with over 50 years of experience. Its extensive network of dealerships has established it as one of the most prominent companies in the sector in the province.
In Innovation and Technology, the recognition goes to Aganova, an international reference that emerged from Málaga's innovative ecosystem. The company has positioned itself as a key player in the city's technological development, increasingly attracting firms linked to this field.
Sport and Culture: the Rise of Málaga CF and the Lyricism of Carlos Álvarez
The Sports award will be given to Juanfran Funes, coach of Málaga CF. The coach has been pivotal in the team's promotion to La Liga, a feat that returns the club to the top tier of Spanish football after eight years of absence. His management of the locker room and tactical proposals have been decisive.
In the Culture category, the award goes to Carlos Álvarez, one of the most prominent figures in Spanish lyric. Despite his international projection, the baritone has maintained a close connection with Málaga, helping to project the city as a cultural reference.
Solidarity, Education and Sustainability: the Social Commitment
Teléfono de la Esperanza receives the Solidarity award for its emotional support work for vulnerable individuals. The entity has become an essential resource for those going through difficult times, contributing to social well-being in the city.
In Education, the 'Healthy Screens' campaign, promoted by the Official College of Physicians of Málaga since 2023, is the winner. The project raises awareness about the harmful effects of improper use of electronic devices, especially among children and young people, and promotes responsible screen use.
The Environmental Sustainability Award goes to the Fundación Aula del Mar Mediterráneo (FAMM), based in Málaga. The organisation works on the preservation of the Mediterranean coast through research, environmental education, and citizen participation.
The award ceremony will take place on September 17 at the Teatro Cervantes. The residents of Málaga will be able to follow the event live through municipal channels.
