The Málaga City Council has activated the process for associations, businesses, and institutions to join the third edition of the Week of Proximity, which will take place from October 16 to 22.

The Week of Proximity returns to Málaga with its third edition, and the City Council has already opened the registration period for entities, businesses, and institutions from the eleven districts. The event, which will take place from October 16 to 22, aims to engage the social fabric in activities that highlight local value.

An unstoppable growth

In the first edition, 52 organizations organized 95 activities. Last year, the number skyrocketed: around a hundred entities offered 192 actions, including workshops, guided walks, and open days. The Councillor for Citizen Participation, Mar Torres, has encouraged participation to surpass these records.

This year's slogan, 'Rediscovering our neighbourhoods', invites people to look at their immediate surroundings with fresh eyes. The initiative, driven alongside the NESI Forum Foundation, aims to raise awareness about the importance of proximity as a factor for quality of life and sustainability.

“We want to fill the city with experiences that showcase the work of organizations that make Málaga a closer and fairer city,” Torres stated.

How to participate

Interested entities can register through the Citizen Participation area. The deadline will remain open until September. On October 16, the week will kick off with a meeting in the Mirrors Hall of the City Council, featuring presentations and a round table on proximity.

The proposed activities should revolve around local consumption, local care networks, or proximity urbanism. It is an opportunity for neighbourhood associations, local businesses, and collectives to showcase their work.

Impact on the neighbourhoods

For the average citizen, the Week of Proximity represents a unique opportunity to rediscover their neighbourhood. Urban garden workshops, guided tours of unique spots, or local product markets are just some of the proposals that have been successful in previous editions.

The initiative aims to strengthen the associative fabric and remind everyone that local is key to a more liveable city. In a time of globalization, Málaga bets on proximity as a hallmark of identity.

The City Council hopes to exceed a hundred participating entities and reach 200 activities. The event promises to be a showcase of the more community-oriented Málaga.
