The Málaga City Council has awarded the renovation works for Calle Cobertizo del Conde, in the Central District, for over 450,000 euros. The initiative, part of the 'Conecta Málaga' plan, aims to limit traffic and gain pedestrian space.

The company Delta Ingeniería, Infraestructuras y Servicios S.L. will be responsible for executing the reform of Calle Cobertizo del Conde, as reported by the Málaga City Council. The investment exceeds 450,000 euros and is part of the 'Conecta Málaga' plan, which seeks to transform mobility in the city.

A street with more space for pedestrians

Currently, the street has a variable section and a single lane of traffic, which creates transit problems. The initiative, following the guidelines of the PEPRI Centro, will implement a single platform throughout the street, with differentiated pavements to improve accessibility, in line with ONCE guidelines.

The street will become a zone 20, a measure aimed at reducing the intensity of private traffic and discouraging the use of the street as a thoroughfare. This will promote pedestrian transit, with the incorporation of green elements and materials with drening, photocatalytic and sound-absorbing properties, which will help reduce pollution and noise.

Comprehensive renewal of services

The works are not limited to the pavement. The sewage and supply network will also be renewed, and a cleaning network will be created for the street. Additionally, lighting will be improved with low-consumption lighting, and overhead wiring will be removed, enhancing the aesthetics of the environment.

This initiative is part of the comprehensive renewal of the area around Calle Lagunillas, which is nearing completion. Both projects are part of the 'Málaga Conecta' plan, which also includes interventions in the neighborhoods of Las Flores and Cruz del Humilladero.

European funding for urban transformation

The 'Conecta Málaga' plan has a total budget of 30 million euros, of which the City Council contributes 16 million (60%) to maximize the use of European funds. Specifically, 85% of the approved public investment, amounting to 14,057,535 euros, is co-financed by the European Union.

For residents of the Central District, the reform will mean a significant change in their daily lives. Calle Cobertizo del Conde, which connects Lagunillas with Cruz Verde, will become a more pleasant space for walking, with less traffic and more green areas. The works, which will begin in the coming weeks, are expected to last several months, although the City Council has not specified the exact timeline.
