The Vélez-Málaga Town Hall will allocate nearly €950,000 to modernise and enhance the security of four football pitches in the municipality, with actions including artificial grass, lighting, and perimeter protections.
The Vélez-Málaga Town Hall, through the Sports Department, has announced an investment of around €950,000 to renew and improve the security of four football pitches in the municipality. The works, which will be carried out before the end of the year, will affect the Fernando Ruiz Hierro Sports Centre, the Vivar Téllez Stadium, the Benajarafe football pitch, and the Almayate pitch.
The main action will consist of the complete replacement of the artificial grass on the 11-a-side and 7-a-side pitches at the Fernando Ruiz Hierro Sports Centre, as well as on the 7-a-side pitch at the Vivar Téllez Stadium and at the Benajarafe stadium. The latter, as highlighted by the Sports Councillor, Manuel Gutiérrez, has one of the oldest grasses in the municipality, making its renewal particularly necessary.
Additionally, the plan includes the installation of a modern lighting system with four towers at the Almayate football pitch, which will significantly improve visibility and energy efficiency at the facility. New perimeter protections will also be added to the 11-a-side pitch at the Fernando Ruiz Hierro Sports Centre, and the goals at the 7-a-side pitch at the Vivar Téllez Stadium will be renewed.
“This plan will mark a turning point for our youth and for the clubs in the municipality,” emphasised Manuel Gutiérrez, who stressed that these investments “address the main needs conveyed by athletes, clubs, and sports technicians.”
The councillor emphasised that this investment reflects the governing team's commitment to maintaining modern, safe, and quality sports facilities, tailored to the needs of clubs, sports schools, and users who make intensive use of them throughout the year. The actions will respond to historical demands from clubs and users, improving the safety and equipment of the facilities.
Looking ahead to next year, the Town Hall will continue to promote new investments in sports. Among the planned actions is the upcoming commissioning of three new paddle courts at the Fernando Ruiz Hierro Sports Centre, one of which will be panoramic with seating, in addition to other improvements already executed in Caleta de Vélez.
