Vélez-Málaga's Youth Department opens registrations this Tuesday for 40 spots on a free dolphin-watching trip aboard a catamaran in Benalmádena on September 26. Young people registered in the municipality born between 1996 and 2012 can sign up.
Young people registered in Vélez-Málaga will be able to participate on Saturday, September 26 in a free dolphin-watching day aboard a catamaran in Benalmádena. This activity is part of the ‘Alternative Leisure 2026’ programme from the Youth Department and has 40 spots.
Those born between 1996 and 2012, inclusive, and registered in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga can sign up. The registration period opens at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, September 15 and closes at 2:00 PM on September 23, or earlier if spots run out.
The Youth Councillor, Lourdes Piña, explained the aim of the initiative:
“We continue to work to provide our young people with different, healthy and attractive leisure alternatives that allow them to enjoy, discover new places, and share experiences with other young people from our municipality.”
The day will start at 9:45 AM with departure from the Municipal Association House of Vélez-Málaga. Arrival at Puerto Marina in Benalmádena is expected at 11:00 AM, allowing time for breakfast and checking in before the main activity.
Between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, the catamaran ride and dolphin-watching will take place in the Alboran Sea aboard the Magic Vision Catamaran, which according to the organisers has an 82% success rate in dolphin sightings. Afterward, there will be time for lunch and enjoying the beach in Benalmádena, with a return to Vélez-Málaga scheduled for 6:00 PM.
Registrations can be made in person at the Youth Department or through the Electronic Headquarters of the City Council, and are exclusively for registered residents of the municipality who meet the age requirements.
This initiative adds to others from the ‘Alternative Leisure’ programme, which in 2025 included outings such as Aventura Amazonia, the Lobo Park in Antequera, kayaking routes along the cliffs of Maro-Cerro Gordo, diving in La Herradura, and hiking routes in the province of Granada. In 2026, proposals such as a trip to Sierra Nevada for skiing or snowboarding and a new day at Aventura Amazonia Marbella have been scheduled.
The Youth Department is also introducing two video game creation courses this autumn in collaboration with EducaGamer, which will be held at the ‘Manuel Berenguer’ Municipal Association House. They will be Roblox Studio for participants aged 6 to 12 on Tuesdays from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, and Unity for young people aged 10 to 17 on Tuesdays from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, both starting from October 6.
