The president of Vox Málaga, Antonio Sevilla, has called for the immediate resignation of the mayor of Frigiliana and several councillors, investigated for alleged crimes of prevarication, embezzlement, and criminal organisation.
The president of Vox Málaga, Antonio Sevilla, has demanded the immediate resignation of the mayor of Frigiliana, from the PSOE, and the councillors of his government team who are being investigated for alleged crimes of administrative prevarication, embezzlement of public funds, fraud in contracting, criminal organisation, and influence peddling. Sevilla stated that "being investigated for corruption disqualifies you from continuing to lead a mayoralty" and urged the mayor to step aside while the investigations are ongoing.
Vox calls for consistency from the PP and PSOE
In a statement sent to the media, Sevilla pointed out that no municipality in the province of Málaga can be led by public officials under serious judicial investigations. The provincial leader of Vox took the opportunity to criticise the "hypocrisy" of the PP, which he accuses of "demanding accountability from the PSOE in Frigiliana while keeping a mayor in charge of Estepona who will be tried for prevarication and embezzlement." "It is of no use to point fingers at others if, when you have the same problem, you do not act decisively," he added.
Sevilla also reminded that Benalmádena has its mayor indicted, which, in his opinion, demonstrates that "corruption has been a constant of the bipartisanship wherever PSOE and PP have governed for decades." Therefore, he defended that "Vox is proving to be the only party capable of ending the corruption that has characterised bipartisanship."
The local coordinator demands transparency
For his part, the local coordinator of Vox in Frigiliana, Juan González, has demanded that all investigated facts be clarified and that political responsibilities be established as soon as possible. "We demand that the facts for which there are indications of embezzlement and prevarication be clarified," he stated. González emphasised that Vox Frigiliana "strongly opposes any action that could harm the residents of the municipality" and assured that his party will present itself to the residents as "a real alternative to regenerate municipal political life" and "to end nepotism, cronyism, and all acts that are not completely transparent."
The judicial investigation directly affects the management of the Frigiliana Town Hall, a municipality in the Axarquía malagueña with about 3,000 inhabitants. The residents, who have already expressed their concern on social media, hope that the case will be resolved quickly to avoid damaging the town's image or the trust in its institutions. Meanwhile, the local opposition, led by Vox, will continue to pressure for the mayor to step aside.
Sevilla concluded his remarks by insisting that "no municipality in the province of Málaga should have as mayor someone who is under investigation," and urged both the PSOE and the PP to act with the same standard. For now, the mayor of Frigiliana has not commented on the resignation requests. The coming days will be crucial to see if the mayor decides to temporarily step aside or if, on the contrary, he waits for the judicial investigation to progress.
